TUNE-IN ALERT

General Hospital Spoilers Video: Revisit Anthony Geary’s Final Episode as Luke Spencer

Comments

The General Hospital spoilers video for the week of December 29 previews not the dramatic week to come, but instead, a very special episode that fans won’t want to miss: the final appearance of Luke Spencer, played by the late Anthony Geary. As previously reported, on Thursday, January 1, ABC will be airing an encore presentation of the July 27, 2015 episode, which marked the daytime legend’s farewell to Port Charles.

Saying Goodbye

Geary first appeared as Luke Spencer back on November 20, 1978, and the character proved so popular with viewers that he lasted well past the initial 13 week run that was planned. After exiting the soap in 1983, Geary returned alongside longtime co-star Genie Francis (Laura) for an arc in 1984. When he came back to the soap in 1991, it was as a completely new character, Luke’s look-alike cousin, Bill Eckert. That character wasn’t as big a hit with fans, so he was killed off in 1993, and Geary stuck around to continue playing Luke. During his decades on GH, he took home a record-setting eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor.

In May 2015, Geary announced his decision to retire from GH and acting, and moved to Amsterdam, where he spent the remainder of his years living with his husband, Claudio Gama. The actor passed away on December 14, 2025, at the age of 78, from complications following a planned surgery. Castmates and friends penned heartfelt tributes to the daytime icon, and his widower shared a special message with GH fans.

In the promo, we see Luke standing a the docks, looking out over the water, ready to start a new life. Following a clip of him giving Sonny (Maurice Benard) a farewell embrace, Luke declares, “Good-bye, Port Charles.”

Luke’s exit is not all viewers will get to see in that episode from over 10 years ago. They’ll also witness Ric (Rick Hearst) keeping Nina (then-Michelle Stafford) under his thumb, Madeline (Donna Mills) trying to keep Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Nathan (Ryan Paevey) apart, and Lulu (then-Emme Rylan) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) still struggling in the aftermath of his cheating on her with Valerie (Brytni Sarpy).
