Who Is General Hospital Star Anthony Geary’s Husband? Meet Claudio Gama
The news that daytime icon Anthony Geary, who played Luke Spencer on General Hospital, had passed away at the age of 78 was shared by his spouse, Claudio Gama, 54. “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends,” he told TV Insider. “For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.” As Geary kept his personal life private during his years in the GH spotlight, many of his fans were not even aware that he was married, and had been for years.
Happily Ever After
Geary and Gama first got together since 1995 and married in February 2019. “This week is our anniversary week,” Gama shared on Instagram back in February 2025. “Tony and I met 30 years ago in February and got married six years ago, also in February. Two anniversaries to celebrate.”
Geary, who originally joined the cast of GH back in 1978, retired from acting in 2015 and moved to Amsterdam with Gama. “I live in the city that I’ve always wanted to live in my whole live and I have somebody who loves me and have a life now that I didn’t have before, no matter how many fan letters or Emmys or how many pages of dialogue to learn,” the actor told Soap Opera Digest back in 2023. “I didn’t have what I have now. So, everything happened at the right time, I guess.”
During his career in daytime, Geary earned a record eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor. At the end of his acceptance speech for his seventh trophy in 2012, Geary added a special private message for his partner, spoken in Portuguese. “My sweet valentine sending me a message from afar many years ago,” Gama shared on Instagram. “Sweet beijinhos meu amor [kisses, my love].”
Gama often posts updates on life in the Netherlands via his Instagram account, sharing weather updates, progress on his needlework, his Italian cooking, and photos and videos of their cat, Max. Occasionally, he would share vintage photos or videos of his husband’s career, including his work on GH. The couple has also hosted some of his former castmates when they came to Amsterdam to visit, like Kelly Monaco (ex-Sam) and Finola Hughes (Anna).
This February, as Gama and Geary celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary and three decades together, they hosted a small party at their home in Amsterdam. ‘Our anniversary is in full party mode,” Gama announced. “Good friends, nice booze, and pizza. It’s mid-week. I decided not to cook. I will have a big dinner on the weekend, then more people can join.”
Gama’s last post with Geary was on December 5, when he shared a picture of them cuddling on the couch. “Greetings from us in Amsterdam,” he wrote. “It’s Sinterklaas today in the Netherlands. The kids get gifts and we give chocolate letters to each other. I did some work, now home with Max watching UK championships snooker. Tony went to see Wicked 2 with his best mate tonight. No cooking. Going to a restaurant with Hugo. Weekend free. Have a warm, healthy, and safe Friday and weekend.”
