General Hospital Recap: Sonny and Ethan Target Sidwell as Dante Reopens Cullum Shooting Case
On the Monday, April 27, episode of General Hospital, secrets and lies were front and center. Carly (Laura Wright) worried that Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) soft spot for Anna (Finola Hughes) would be his undoing, “Nathan” (Ryan Paevey) was uncomfortable with Sidwell’s (Carlo Rota) proximity to James, Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Ethan (Nathan Dean) strategized about a common enemy, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) lost her cool with Rocco (Finn Carr), Cullum’s (Andrew Hawkes) questions unnerved Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) decided to reopen the PCPD’s investigation into Cullum’s shooting. Keep on reading for all the details.
Miracle Worker
At the Metro Court Gardens, Obrecht was offended when Josslyn suggested that Nathan might be emulating or impersonating Cesar Faison. Joss asked if Obrecht had questioned her son about the circumstances of his miraculous return, explaining that she thought Nathan’s comeback, the items connected to Faison that she’d found at Wyndemere and Anna’s breakdown might all be connected. Obrecht cautioned Joss that it was dangerous for her to keep asking such questions and that she might end up like Anna if she wasn’t careful. “You don’t want to end up like Anna, do you?” she posed. Joss claimed she would drop it, but clearly didn’t mean it.

Marked for Death?
Ethan dropped by Sonny’s office and noted his surprise at learning Sonny had sold two of his piers. Sonny didn’t reveal why he made the sale, but said if things worked out with Ethan’s new gig, there would be no secrets between them. Lucy arrived and had a warm reunion with Ethan, then told Sonny she was ready to make her move on Jenz before Ava boxed her out. Sonny told Lucy to call him if things got dangerous. She promised him she could handle herself.
After Lucy left, Sonny put Ethan in charge of protecting Lucy from Sidwell. Ethan questioned why Sonny wasn’t just eliminating Sidwell, and Sonny was surprised to hear that Ethan would be willing to take him out. Ethan replied that his interest in eliminating Sidwell was personal, as Sidwell had tried to kill his mother, Holly. “The world would be a much better place without Jenz Sidwell in it,” he proclaimed.
Given that Sonny had sold his piers to Sidwell, Ethan suspected Jenz had leverage over him. Sonny was impressed by Ethan’s read on the situation and said that he had his reasons for not wanting Sidwell dead — yet. Ethan replied that if and when that changed, he’d be happy to handle it.

Oh, Brother
At Bobbie’s, Sidwell approached “Nathan” and James. Cassius was uneasy as Sidwell bonded with James over their shared interest in martial arts. Lucy arrived to join Sidwell and he suggested they share their meal with James and “Nathan,” but Cassius left with the boy to grab dessert with Obrecht. Lucy masked her growing irritation as Sidwell raved about what a great source of support Ava has been for him and proposed that they invite her to join them on his yacht on the 4th of July.

When James and “Nathan” met up with Obrecht, “Nathan” confirmed to his mother that he was still seeing Lulu. James casually mentioned that he wished he had a brother and asked if “Nathan” felt the same. “Nathan” replied that he did have a brother, Peter, but had barely known him. “No, I mean a good brother,” chirped James. A faraway look crossed over Obrecht’s face.

Curiouser and Curiouser
Dante brought Rocco to the hospital for his community service shift and tried to question Britt about what she had witnessed on the pier the night Cullum was shot. She tersely replied that she had already given her statement and ended the conversation.
As Elizabeth tended to Cullum in his hospital room, he complimented her for giving him such excellent care despite sharing a child with the man who shot him. He asked after Jake, pressed her about her relationship with Jason, and wanted to know if she’d been on duty the night of the shooting. Cullum also disclosed that Jason had injured his hand when he fired his gun.

Later, Liz met up with Dante and filled him in about her odd encounter with Cullum. Dante noted that it seemed as if Cullum was also seeking answers about the night he was shot. More convinced than ever that something about that night wasn’t adding up, Dante confided that he regretted that he hadn’t pushed to let the PCPD investigate the shooting instead of ceding the matter to the WSB.
Safety First
Britt found Rocco peeking at Cullum through the window of his hospital room and yanked the teen down the hall, scolding him for not heeding her warning to stay away from the dangerous man. When Rocco mentioned shooting Cullum, Britt grabbed him roughly and ordered him never to say those words aloud again. Rocco was hurt when Britt told Rocco to stay away from her, too. Liz spotted the pair’s heated conversation and broke it up. After a rattled Rocco scurried away, Liz chided Britt for her behavior. She softened when a weepy Britt explained that she was trying to do the right thing by putting distance between herself and Rocco.

Risky Business
Carly brought food up to Valentin in the attic and he filled her in on his visit from Josslyn, who had told him that she had found items linked to Cesar Faison — and therefore to Anna — during her visit to Wyndemere. Valentin shared his belief that Cullum had played a direct role in Anna’s breakdown. He theorized that Anna had been getting too close to the truth about what Sidwell and Cullum were up to, so they’d removed her as an obstacle, noting that they would have attracted too much attention if they’d killed her. If they had killed her, he added, Valentin would never have rested without bringing them to justice.
When Valentin let it slip that he had once again called the clinic to get an update on Anna, Carly was alarmed by the huge risk he had taken given that the WSB was likely monitoring Anna. She fretted that his actions might lead the WSB straight to him. “Here, in my house,” she said pointedly.

Meanwhile, Cullum called Sidwell to report that someone claiming to be Kevin had called the clinic for info on Anna — but the call had come from Port Charles, not from Kevin’s location in Ireland. “We need to find out who placed that call and pay them a visit,” Cullum declared.
Open Season
Joss visited Dante in his office, claiming to want to know how the PCPD’s investigation into Cullum’s shooting was going so she could update Carly. When Dante said there was no such investigation, Joss flashed back to seeing “Nathan” slipping out of Cullum’s hospital room. She moved to leave, but Dante stopped her in her tracks by revealing that he has known for months that she’s in the WSB.
Unable to deny it, Joss shared that Brennan had deactivated her and ordered her to stay out of Jason’s case. She didn’t believe the WSB’s story — or that Jason was the shooter — and thought the agency was engaged in a cover-up. Dante told her that the next time she came by, she’d better have useful info and be ready to trade it with him. After she left, Dante decided to officially reopen the investigation into the shooting.

Will Valentin’s phone call to France lead to his recapture? Is his hatred for Sidwell the real reason Ethan threw in with Sonny? Will Dante’s investigation lead him to the truth about what Rocco did? Share your theories and predictions about GH in the comments below!
