General Hospital Exclusive: Finn Carr Breaks Down Rocco’s Shocking Confession to Britt
On General Hospital, Rocco has been struggling to hold it together after shooting dirty WSB Agent Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) and letting Jason (Steve Burton) take the rap. And on the April 21 episode, the troubled teen cracked under pressure and blurted out the truth about the shooting to a stunned Britt (Kelly Thiebaud). Soap Opera Digest got the inside scoop on Rocco’s confession — and the danger it invites — from his portrayer, Finn Carr.
Slip and Fall?
In the immediate wake of the shooting, Rocco was fairly traumatized — but now that some time has passed, Carr says that his character is coming to terms with what he did. Explains the actor, “In the scenes where Rocco sees Cullum for the first time — he’s doing his community service at the hospital and brings him a pillow and doesn’t know that it’s him until he gets to the room — I decided to play him a little bit stronger, like this is something Rocco has had time to process. It’s not as raw to Rocco, and he’s a little more calculated in how he reacts to him. He has a bit more control, showing that maybe he’s changed from the experience. It was definitely fun to show that stronger side of Rocco, especially because he’s been so emotional with his mom [Lulu, Alexa Havins] and dad [Dante, Dominic Zamprogna].”
As Carr sees it, Rocco carried that sense of strength with him when Britt yanked him out of Cullum’s hospital room and into the chapel to warn him not to mess with the villain. “I think he is able to be strong with Britt because he’s not direct family with her; she’s not his mom,” he observes. “He might think of her more like a cool aunt. I talked to Frank [Valentini, executive producer] about it, and he was all for the decision to go a little bit stronger and show more resilience when Rocco is with Britt.”
But over the course of their conversation, Rocco wound up blurting out not only the secret that he followed Britt to the pier on the night of the shooting, but that he was the one who pulled the trigger! “Some cracks formed in the shield that he likes to put up,” reasons Carr. “I think you can still see some vulnerability and the trauma behind [his confession].”
Danger Zone
Carr teases that when the action picks up, Britt goes from “total disbelief” to being “definitely alarmed” when Rocco details everything that happened between him, Jason and Cullum that fateful night — and her number one order of business is convincing him not to breathe a word to anyone else about what he did. To Britt, who knows that Cullum killed Marco (Adrian Anchondo), it’s a matter of life or death: If Cullum doesn’t find out, Rocco lives, and if he does, Rocco’s a dead man walking.
Muses Carr, “Is Rocco aware of what a threat Cullum is, that Cullum would maybe kill him if he found out? I think he is. But I think he’s not too worried — at least at first.” Hints the actor, “Later, it definitely becomes a big concern for him that he might get hurt by Cullum.”
For now, though, Rocco’s focus shifts closer to home. Carr reports that when it comes to his father and his siblings, Charlotte (Bluesy Burke), Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) and Gio (Giovanni Mazza), “it is definitely frustrating to Rocco that he knows so much and can’t tell them. He is extremely guilt-ridden about having to be dishonest with the people he always confides in, like Danny and Charlotte, especially since he’s lying about something so important. He feels like he’s not being the best brother and that makes him really fight [against] having to keep this massive secret.”
