General Hospital Recap: Jason Investigates Britt, Sonny Threatens Turner, and Drew Suspects Willow

Comments

The July 23 episode of General Hospital was full of tense confrontations and deepening mysteries. Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) warned Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) to stay away from Rocco (Finn Carr), Sonny (Maurice Benard) got threatening with ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor), Jason (Steve Burton) shared his suspicions with Carly (Laura Wright), and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) left both Portia (Brook Kerr) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) rattled.

At The Metro Court pool, Jason told Carly about how Rocco had been asking about Britt and wondered if that’s why he thought he saw her at the airport. Carly dismissed it as a coincidence, reminding her BFF that Britt was dead. “So was I,” Jason argued. After he explained how Rocco discovered the unusual circumstances of his birth, Carly allowed that Jason’s opinion of Britt was different than most, but she wouldn’t speak ill of the dead because she perished saving Josslyn’s life. “What if she didn’t?” Jason countered.

Rocco was annoyed to find Lulu hovering while he was trying to work and angrily demanded some space. At the hatchet range, squirming as Obrecht gave young James pointers on axe throwing, Spinelli texted Lulu to get there ASAP. Liesl was gone by the time she arrived, but Spinelli gave her the heads-up that Britt’s mom was back in Port Charles. Immediately worried, Lulu called Dante to share the news, and they rushed over to the pool to check on their boy.

They found Obrecht happily chatting with Rocco, and Lulu angrily warned her to stay away from Lulu’s son. Before making her exit, Obrecht pointed out to them both that Rocco wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for her Britta. Lulu and Dante were stunned when Rocco revealed he was the one who had reached out to Obrecht for information about Britt, and when they tried to warn him not to listen to anything the woman says, the teen got upset and stormed off.

Jason asked Carly what she knew about the circumstances surrounding Britt’s death, and she recalled how Britt had saved Josslyn from Heather Webber, but was nicked by the poisoned hook in the process and later died in her mother’s arms. Intrigued, Jason decided that he needed to have a conversation with Obrecht.

A Fine Story

Lucas found the address where Marco was being held and opened the door with the key to discover him beaten, unconscious and handcuffed to a chair. Relieved when Marco woke up, Lucas explained how he’d found him and revealed that his sister, the late Sam, had taught him to pick locks, so he could get him out of the cuffs. Lucas wanted him to go to the hospital to get checked out, but Marco said he had something to take care of first.

At the police station, ADA Turner continued interrogating Sonny until they were interrupted by Dante. While she spoke with Sidwell outside, Dante tried to remind his father that Gio and Rocco looked up to their grandfather, and opined that Sonny shouldn’t do anything to change that. They joined the other two, and Sidwell expressed his concerns that someone wanted to use his son as leverage to force him to do something. When Turner asked him to be specific, Sidwell declined to name names, fearing for his son’s life, though he did glare directly at Sonny. Just then, Marco showed up with a wild story about going for a walk and getting lost in the woods, falling in a ravine, getting a flat tire, and falling asleep in his car. Turner clearly wasn’t buying the tale for a second.

Lucas went to the Metro Court to wait for Marco and persuaded Carly to let him into Marco’s room to wait for him. When she tried to shrug off the whole kidnapping incident, Lucas informed his sister how badly beaten Marco was, warning that if Marco had been killed, he’d make sure Jason and Sonny spent the rest of their lives in prison. Carly argued that Sidwell was a dangerous person, and knowing this, Marco still works for his father. When she called him naive for getting mixed up with Marco, Lucas bitterly told her never to defend Jason or Sonny to him again. Later, Marco returned, and Lucas worried about his injuries, but he insisted he was fine and distracted him by kissing him passionately and leading him over to the bed.

At the station, Sidwell thanked Turner and excused himself. When Sonny tried to leave as well, Turner stopped him to insist she knew exactly what was going on and accused him of being as corrupt and soulless as she thought he was. “If I’m as corrupt and soulless as you think I am,” Sonny hissed at the shaken ADA. “Marco Rios would be dead.”

A Step Too Far

At the hospital, Willow refused to listen to Portia as she tried to explain how Drew was a terrible person, blackmailing her to tamper with Michael’s blood tests to make it appear he was abusing opioids so he’d lose custody of the kids. A stone-faced Willow responded, “If that’s what it takes, I’m on Drew’s side.” Stunned, Portia tried to get her to see reason, but Willow declared that Michael hadn’t fought fair, so why should she? She insisted that Michael was to blame and Drew was the only person that she trusted.

Not That Bad: Drew (Cameron Mathison) couldn’t believe Nina suspected him of using Baby Daisy to torment Sasha and Michael.ABC

Meanwhile, Nina paid Drew a visit at home to let him know that Sasha had left town with baby Daisy. He assumed Sasha had split because Michael was trying to control her life, but Nina revealed that she had Michael’s full support because someone was targeting their newborn daughter. Drew found that reprehensible, and assumed it was one of Sonny’s many enemies. But Nina suggested it could be someone else… someone like Drew himself. Offended, Drew swore he had nothing to do with it, and she admitted that if he was lying, it was pretty convincing. “Like you said, whoever did this to Daisy, they’re capable of torturing someone just for the hell of it,” Nina warned. “And they’re still out there.”

Portia called Nina over to the hospital to tell her about the “terrifying” conversation she’d just had with Willow. “What has Drew done to her?” she asked. Noting Nina’s horrified reaction when she told her about Drew wanting her to change Michael’s blood tests, Portia informed her that her daughter didn’t seem at all bothered by the idea. Willow returned home, where Spinelli was wrapping up discussing wedding plans with Drew on Maxie’s behalf, and was excited about the upcoming ceremony. Drew flashed back to what Nina had told him and casually asked what Willow had done on the Fourth of July. As she awkwardly lied that she’d had drinks with her mother, Drew smiled politely, attempting to hide his growing suspicion about his bride-to-be.
