General Hospital Fans Outraged as Willow Escapes Consequences For Drugging Drew
When Drew (Cameron Mathison) confronted Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) on General Hospital, many fans were looking forward to seeing her face the consequences of her actions. But when the long-awaited scenes played out in the July 28 episode, viewers were left frustrated as Willow struck a deal with Drew, ensuring that she would get away with everything.
Where’s the Justice?
While Drew was eager to make Willow pay for her crimes against him, which included shooting him and later keeping him drugged in a locked-in state for months. But then Nina (Cynthia Watros) arrived with Jack (Chris McKenna), who had dug up evidence of Drew’s own crimes — which Willow used to leverage him into staying quiet about her actions and to end their marriage with no reprisals against his wife. She even got to keep his congressional seat, which she assumed while he was unable to perform his civic duties.
Fans who were looking forward to seeing Willow get what was coming to her were left unsatisfied as she once again came out on top and even smugly gloated about her victory.
On the Soap Opera Digest Facebook page, Karen Keough Matarese commented, “Very disappointed I wanted to see Willow get hers not walk out smirking. 😡” And Michael Sutera wondered, “So Willow is never going to pay for anything [she’s] done?”
Some viewers were also offended by the moment at the end of the episode where Willow made a show of removing her wedding rings — including her engagement ring, which originally belonged to late Quartermaine matriarch Lila (Anna Lee) — and dropping them to the floor before walking out of the house.
“Was that Lilas ring Willow so blatantly dropped on the floor?” asked @sunnimee on X (formerly Twitter). “Shame on her.” Over on Facebook, Gale Wagoner suggested, “I’d love for both of them to go to jail and never come back. I hope somebody rescues that ring she dropped on the floor. It was Lila’s and should go back to the Quartermanes.”
Several fans felt that the climax wasn’t worth the long wait, especially given that Willow was previously acquitted of shooting Drew even though she was very much guilty. @SusanQTex complained on X, “So Willow shoots Drew, drugs him for months and gets away free and clear [without] losing anything? Not a Drew fan but come on. The bad guys need to pay not win.” And on Facebook, Sandra Weir commented, “So, after months of buildup nothing happened and Willow got away with all the things she has done again? That’s BS!”
Willow’s Reckoning May Still Arrive
Although Willow appeared to make a clean escape both from her marriage to Drew and any possible repercussions for her crimes, Drew privately vowed to himself that this was not over by a long shot, so he may yet find a way to even the score. That left some GH fans hopeful that Willow would eventually see some kind of justice.
“Anyone who thinks Drew is finished with Willow is sadly mistaken,” Aeva Wheet commented on Facebook. “He is going to wreck havoc on Willow, Nina AND Jack for what they did to him.” And on X, @jdn031671 noted, “Maybe legally Nina and Willow won’t be held accountable, but I still believe Drew will get his revenge.”
