General Hospital Comings & Goings: Ryan Paevey Exits as Cassius
Ryan Paevey has officially wrapped his General Hospital run as Cassius Faison. After 10 months in the role, the soap confirmed to TV Insider that the July 6 episode was the actor’s last.
Executive Producer Frank Valentini told the outlet that Paevey’s stint “was always planned as a short-term arc” and said of the actor, “He did incredible work, and we loved having him back.”
A New Opportunity
Paevey first joined the cast of GH back in 2013 to play heroic police detective Nathan West, departing in 2018 when his alter ego was shot dead in the line of duty. During his time on the soap and in the years that followed, the actor starred in numerous movies for the Hallmark Channel.
In August 2025, it was announced that Paevey would be returning to GH. He debuted in September, and while it initially appeared that he was playing Nathan back from the dead, it was ultimately revealed that “Nathan” was actually his twin, Cassius Faison, who was posing as his late brother.
“This was the role I came back to play,” Paevey told Soap Opera Digest in April 2026 when his character’s true identity was revealed. “Cassius is basically Nathan turned on his heels. He has to be similar enough to Nathan that it’s feasible, that it’s believable that people were fooled. He looks like Nathan, he kind of sounds like Nathan — the camouflage is viable, so to speak. I mean, we are twins. But there are some differences.”
Although Cassius was also revealed to secretly be working with villains Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) and Sidwell (Carlo Rota), he showed a softer side through his romance with Lulu (Alexa Havins) and his relationship with Nathan’s son, James (Gary James Fuller).
Inspired to do the right thing in the end, Cassius ditched his plans to skip town and instead rushed to Spoon Island, where he was shot trying to help Josslyn (Eden McCoy) take down Cullum.
Although the soap made it appear that Cassius had died from his wounds, it was revealed in the next episode that he was alive and in WSB custody — which means that the character could make a comeback down the line. Declared Valentini to TV Insider, “The door is always open for him to return.”
