General Hospital Alum Sofia Mattsson Teases New Days of Our Lives Role
The big news that former General Hospital star Sofia Mattsson (ex-Sasha Gilmore) has signed on to join Days of Our Lives broke earlier this week — and now the fan fave has revealed new details about her top-secret Salem role in a new interview with People.

GH brought Sasha’s story to a close last July after a 7-year run as the reformed schemer who had recently given birth to a daughter, Daisy, the product of her illicit hook-up with her then-married ex, Michael (Rory Gibson). The actress admitted that when she decided to make the move to DAYS, “I was a bit nervous for sure, noting that “having been on General Hospital helped ease a lot of worries, as I’m already very familiar with the concept and structure of a daytime show.”
The real-life mom of two won’t actually be seen on the Peacock soap until early in 2027, but is already hard at work at the DAYS studio. The show isn’t revealing the identity of the character she is playing, but Mattsson teased, “The role is very complex and interesting and promised that viewers could look forward to “lots of fun exciting storylines and drama.”
Mattsson also shared that she watched the show growing up in her native Sweden, marveling, “back then I could’ve never in my wildest dream imagined that one day I’d be living in the U.S., working on that very show!” The actress described her new daytime home as possessing “a really happy vibe” and credited the “amazing” cast and crew with welcoming her to the DAYS ranks and helping her through her first weeks on set.
The casting scoop about Mattsson was first reported in former Soap Opera Digest Editorial Director Stephanie Sloane’s soap newsletter, SoapSteph’s Daytime Dish, on March 30, and DAYS and Mattsson subsequently jointly posted a photo of the actress outside of her new dressing room on Instagram with the caption, “Sofia Mattsson is making her way to Salem early next year! 💙⏳.” Mattsson hopped into the comment section with a string of heart emojis, and co-stars from both GH and DAYS also weighed in about the announcement.
“Proud of this gorgeous and insanely talented woman!! Glad she will be back on our screens!” cheered Tanisha Harper (ex-Jordan, GH). Chloe Lanier (ex-Nelle, GH) enthused, “They are so lucky to have YOU.” Rory Gibson posted, “👏🏼❤️.” Linsey Godfrey (Sarah, DAYS) declared, “We love @iamsofiamattsson ♥️✨.” The post from Mattsson and DAYS was “liked” by yet more daytime stars, including her former Port Charles mom, Emma Samms (ex-Holly) and one-time on-screen love interest Josh Kelly (Cody, GH), Dominic Zamprogna (Dante, GH), Bradford Anderson (Spinelli, GH), Katelyn MacMullen (Willow, GH), Paul Telfer (Xander, DAYS), Dan Feuerriegel (EJ, DAYS), Conner Floyd (who will make his own DAYS debut as Chad later this month), Brandon Beemer (Shawn, DAYS) and Robert Scott Wilson (Alex, DAYS).
