Days of Our Lives Reveals Sydney Malakeh’s Mystery Role as Sydney DiMera
Days of Our Lives confirmed to Deadline that the role Sydney Malakeh will be playing when she makes her Salem debut on Wednesday, September 9: Her new character is Sydney DiMera, the daughter of Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) and EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel).
Sydney DiMera Returns to Salem
Sydney Malakeh, who has appeared on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Apple TV’s Shrinking and HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls, is stepping into a role steeped in Salem history, the product of two major families on the show, the Bradys and the DiMeras.
Sydney DiMera was played by a series of twins from her birth in 2009 until Sami moved to California with her and her brother, Johnny (now-Carson Boatman), in 2014. The character last appeared in the 2021 spinoff movie Days of Our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas, and was played by Evelyn Stephenson. At the time, she was a preteen.
Sydney will not be joined by her mother when Malakeh takes over the role next week, although Sami is returning to the show in June 2027 for a new storyline that also features Sydney’s aunt Carrie Brady (Christie Clark), former stepfather Lucas Horton (Bryan R. Dattilo and half brother Will Horton (Chandler Massey).
Sydney’s young life has been a dramatic one — but the drama actually started before her birth. In 2008, Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) was married to EJ when she miscarried their baby. She tried to hang on to her husband by pretending to still be pregnant and plotted to steal the baby Sami was expecting, who was also fathered by EJ. With help from the corrupt Dr. Baker (John Callahan), Nicole successfully snatched Sami’s newborn daughter, naming her Sydney, while Sami unknowingly went home with another baby girl, who she named Grace, whose mother was unwed teen Mia McCormick’s (Taylor Spreitler).
Sami was heartbroken when Grace died from meningitis in 2009. But in 2010, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) finally uncovered the truth about the baby swap, and Sami was finally reunited with the daughter she’d given birth to.
While Sami remains off the canvas for now, there are many members of Sydney’s biological family still in Salem for her to interact with, including her father, her brother Johnny , and her maternal grandparents, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) and Roman Brady (Josh Taylor).
