ISN’T HE GRAND?
Eric Martsolf (Brady) says he looks forward to having scenes with on-screen grandfather John Aniston (Victor) on DAYS. “I adore John,” Martsolf declares. “He’s the strongest teddy bear out there right now and he’s just a nice man altogether and he loves coming to work! I don’t think the man will ever stop working if it’s up to him.” Martsolf admits that he would love to have some of Victor’s quippy dialogue for himself. When he gets his scripts, “I immediately get envious that I don’t have those one-liners, then I jump to the conclusion that John has always had his own personal writers that write solely for him because it’s just always full of those remarks. I don’t think it’s in the writing, I think it’s in the man’s delivery, which is so subtle, so understated and underplayed, yet completely effective. I think that’s a tribute to a good actor when it seems effortless and it’s so graceful; then you know you’re good. John’s got it down at this point.” Martsolf believes Victor plays an important role in Brady’s life. “I always feel that somehow Victor will find Brady in his moments of weakness,” he observes. “He’s always there! Victor Kiriakis definitely throws out his share of tough love, but Brady will always be there to accept it — that’s just the relationship they have. It’s a tough one, but it is a loving one.”

BABY STEPS
First-time mom-to-be Karla Mosley (Maya, B&B) is patiently counting the days until her August 10 due date. “I’m in the ‘frantically getting ready’ stage now,” Mosley reports. “I will miss doing theater. The stage is such a special place for me but the last theater piece I did [in June] was a very active piece, so I think my body was like, ‘Okay, can we rest now?’ But other than that, I’ve been feeling really good, thank goodness. I’ve been getting out and exercising a lot. I actually just came from a yoga class, so staying active seems to be helping.” Mosley is thankful for her fellow working moms at B&B. “Believe it or not, I’m actually a little shy, so when I finally told everyone, it was a lot of attention, and there was a part of me that was like, ‘Let’s talk about something else.’ But everyone has been so sweet and willing to offer their advice and experience. It’s such a beautiful family at BOLD, starting with Brad [Bell, executive producer/head writer]. He has known for quite a while and he’s been nothing but supportive — and I do look forward to filming scenes when I’m not sitting behind a desk or a bunch of binders [laughs].”

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE
While Margaux appeared unflappable during Carly’s trial on GH, her portrayer, Elizabeth Hendrickson, was sweating bullets. “I’m telling you, my first day on that show was literally the scariest day of my life. I remember thinking, ‘Just get the words out of your mouth — and smile!’ The first day, Margaux was grilling all the witnesses and on my second day, it was Carolyn’s [Hennesy, Diane] turn to do all the interrogation and I was really looking forward to sitting there and watching Carolyn do her thing. I wish they had flip-flopped us so I could have sat back and watched the pro do it and then I could have followed! I was blown away by her. I looked over at her after she just, you know, floated through those scenes and I was like, ‘How long have you been doing this?” And I hope she knows I meant [courtroom scenes] specifically. She said, ‘Twelve years, honey,’ and I gave her the, ‘I bow to you, bravo,’ because I was so in awe. There is a finesse and an ease that she has that I hope I can attain at some point! I hope that one day I can glide as gracefully across a courtroom as she does. If I could describe what she looked like versus what I looked like, compare it to a dance move: She was doing a graceful pirouette and I looked like an awkward marionette!”

Former GLEE star Max Adler (ex-Dave) attests that his brief run on Y&R last year as Jesse, the smarmy photographer who blackmailed Cane, was a challenge that he appreciated. “Working on a soap is very fulfilling,” the actor enthuses. “There’s a lot of lines to memorize and a lot of stuff to focus on and it moves very fast. I had worked on Sully with [Director] Clint Eastwood and he prefers to shoot in one or two takes, which I love. Either you’re feeling it or you’re not and there’s only so much you can do before it feels stale and repetitive. With soaps, you really move through the material, so everything feels fresh and new. The day really flies by. It was very stimulating. I would go home feeling really energized.” Adler enjoyed his stint on Y&R and would love to reprise the role. “I had just started when their new showrunner, Mal Young [now executive producer and head writer], had arrived and he was just a sweetheart and very encouraging,” Adler recalls. “I loved working with Daniel [Goddard, Cane], who was so welcoming and willing to run lines in his dressing room. And Jason [Thompson, Billy] was a lot of fun, but everyone there was very sweet and professional. I had a blast and I would love to come back.”
