THE 411
Brad Maule was born in Rotan, Texas, and though he’s wandered the country pursuing musical and theatrical pursuits, he has always retained his love for the Lone Star state. “I was raised a cowboy kid,” he told Digest in 1997. "My father ran a rodeo show, so I was a rodeo brat.” At 18, Maule graduated from high school and took a job in summer stock. He attended Texas’s Stephen F. Austin State University, graduating with a B.F.A. in Theater and English. Then came the jaunt to California. His first “professional” gig was as a bus boy at a rib joint, where on breaks he’d whip out his guitar and sing. Maule quickly landed a job with the Serendipity Singers, a folk music group, and traveled America with six other singers in a motor home. He went on to sing backup for Don Ho, Bobby Gentry and Jim Nabors before returning to L.A. to headline at the famed Palomino Club.
TV came a callin’ when he landed guest spots on such popular fare as CHARLIE’S ANGELS, THREE’S COMPANY and THE WHITE SHADOW. Then in 1983, Maule got his proverbial big break. The late singer Andy Gibb was a no-show for THE AMERICAN MOVIE AWARDS. Maule was at the right place at the right time, and filled in to sing “Arthur’s Theme” on the telecast. “It was like I was Cinderella,” he noted. Then-GH executive producer Gloria Monty caught the kid’s act, and brought him in to read for the role of Frisco Jones. He didn’t get it, but Monty liked what she saw and the role of Frisco’s straight-laced brother was created just for him. It was only supposed to be short-term, but fans liked what they saw and let GH know it.
In 1997, Maule made his debut as a Las Vegas headliner, singing songs and performing comedy with special guest stars. “It was my Wayne Newton dream come true,” he quipped in 1997. In 2000, GH dropped him to recurring, so Maule decided to moonlight, garnering a recurring role on 7TH HEAVEN, as well as stints on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and PASSIONS. It was during this time that the actor relocated to Texas to be closer to his children, and took a position at his alma mater teaching acting. In February of 2006, Maule’s alter ego fell victim to a killer virus that swept through town, ending his long-running tenure at GH. Though he’ll miss his former stomping grounds, Maule plans to continue commuting to L.A. when work arises. “I am hopeful that another soap will find a place for me,” he told Digest at the time of his exit. “I think people are going to be surprised when [the older generation] becomes quite hip again.”

MEMORABLE QUOTES
“I played Jesus at the local church. I started at the top and I’ve been working my way down ever since.” — on his first acting gig at age 5, Soap Opera Digest, 8/12/97
“Basically, when you hit puberty, they’re going to let you go.” — on ageism in Hollywood, Digest, 10/28/03
"I told Jill [Farren-Phelps, executive producer] that if I had to die, I couldn't have picked a better producer to kill me. She's one of the all-time great, honorable producers. If (one of his former executive producers) had killed me, it would have literally killed me, because I didn't like her. But somebody I respect can kill me all they want!" — Soap Opera Weekly, 2/14/2006
