The 411
Billy Magnussen was born in Queens, NY, but his family then moved to Georgia. After graduating from high school, he obtained his BFA from the prestigious Univ. of North Carolina School of the Arts. He then moved back to New York City, where he continued to pursue acting. Toward the end of 2007, he won the role of ATWT's Casey, replacing Zach Roerig, who'd left the show earlier that past August.
2008 was a busy year for the young star. He filmed several independent movies, including Blood Night and The Elephant Garden. He also began airing on ATWT. Immediately, fans and his castmates noted the resemblance between him and Roerig. However, Magnussen made the role his own and got to enjoy his own juicy storyline when Casey had an affair with the older Emily — the one-time mistress of Casey's father, Tom!

"You have your own take. The writers are still writing the same character, but I'm definitely not trying to imitate him."
— On replacing Zach Roerig (ex-Casey), Digest, 5/6/08
"My parents have this thing about taste-testing everything in life: ‘You never know until you taste it.' So they backed me up, no matter what. I'm blessed beyond belief to have this opportunity."
