Hillary B. Smith debuted as Nora Hanen on One Life To Live, Kyle Lowder exited Days of Our Lives as Brady Black, Sam McCall and Patrick Drake shared their first kiss on General Hospital, and other memorable soap moments that took place on September 16.

In 1974, Joe Riley (Lee Patterson) and Victoria Lord (Erika Slezak) tied the knot in a small ceremony on One Life to Live. The ceremony was shot on location at a small Catholic church in New York City. The happy couple had much to celebrate, as they overcame many obstacles, including her father's disapproval and him being presumed dead in a car accident, before saying, "I do." Joe and Viki welcomed a son, Kevin, in 1976, but while Viki was pregnant with their second son, Joey, who was born in 1980, Joe sadly passed away due to a terminal brain tumor.

In 1992, Hillary B. Smith debuted as Nora Hanen (pictured with Robert S. Woods as Bo Buchanan) on One Life To Live. Prior to joining the show, Smith had appeared as Kit McCormick on The Doctors in 1982 and, from 1983-89, she played Margo Hughes on As The World Turns. She recalled of her move to OLTL on Soap Opera Digest's podcast, Dishing With Digest, "I was screen-testing with Bobby Woods [and] I remember [then-Executive Producer] Linda Gottlieb calling me upstairs going, 'You know, we’re really looking for a redhead.' I said, 'Well, a redhead screen-tested. You should hire her.' She said, 'Well, would you be interested in being a redhead?' I was like, 'Sure, I’ll be a redhead, but you’ve got a redhead downstairs and she was great.' So it took about a week but then they called and said I had the part. Two weeks later, I had already dyed my hair red and I was getting ready to go in for my first day of work."

In 1997, Susan Haskell and Thorsten Kaye exited One Life To Live as Marty Saybrooke Thornhart and Patrick Thornhart. Haskell had begun her run in 1992, while Kaye joined the cast in 1995. After exiting the show, the actors married in real life and welcomed two daughters, McKenna and Marlowe. Haskell returned to OLTL as Marty from 2008-11, while Kaye went on to play Ian Thornhart on Port Charles, Zach Slater on All My Children and his current role, Ridge Forrester on Bold and Beautiful.

The actor assumed the role of John and Isabella's son in 2000, and after he left, Eric Martsolf was hired to succeed him in 2008. In 2018, Lowder returned to the show in a different role, Rex Brady.

The pair's relationship became serious, leading to an engagement, but they ultimately called off their plans to wed. Patrick wound up reuniting with Robin Scorpio, remarrying her, and leaving town with her and their daughter, Emma.
