Rena Sofer Returned to General Hospital as Lois and Other Big Soap Moments from October 11

In 2011, Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) wed in Aspen on Bold and Beautiful. Liam had been engaged to marry Hope Logan, but when she spied him sharing a good-bye kiss with Steffy, Hope jumped to the wrong conclusion about who had Liam's heart and left her engagement ring at his place. Reeling, Liam proposed to Steffy (with the same ring, no less) and they headed to Colorado — with Hope in hot pursuit. Hope got word to Liam to meet up with her on a mountain. En route, Bill intercepted her as a favor to Steffy and made sure she didn't make the rendezvous. As Hope watched helplessly from afar, Steffy joined Liam on the mountain clad in a wedding dress and they became husband and wife.

In 2012, Eileen Davidson returned to Days of Our Lives as Kristen DiMera after a 16-year absence (she had originally played the role from 1993-98). This comeback lasted for a year and was eventful, to say the least. After Stefano convinced Kristen to return to Salem, she tried to drive a wedge between John and Marlena and pursued a romance with John's son, Brady, delighting in the upset it caused for John. After Brady dumped her over her scheming, Kristen drugged and raped Eric, capturing the assault on video. Brady asked for a second chance, and Kristen was thrilled — and determined to keep Eric from remembering what had happened between them. But the truth came out via the videotape during Brady and Kristen's would-be wedding. For this arc, Davidson won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress.

In 2019, Brandon Barash (pictured with Camila Banus as Gabi Hernandez DiMera) exited Days of Our Lives as Stefan DiMera, who was shot dead... or so it seemed. From 2020-22, Barash returned to the show as Stefan's surprise twin, Jake. But after Jake was killed, Stefan was brought back to life with the help of Dr. Rolf, with Barash reprising the role.

In 2023, Rena Sofer (pictured with Wally Kurth, Ned Quartermaine, her scene partner and real-life ex-husband) returned to General Hospital to reprise her Daytime Emmy-winning role of Lois Cerullo, who she had originally portrayed from 1993-97. The actress, who had last played Quinn Fuller on Bold and Beautiful, shared with Soap Opera Digest, "Out of nowhere, Frank [Valentini, executive producer] reached out to me by text asking if I’d be willing to talk to him. I said, ‘Of course.’ The last time I saw Frank was at Courtney Hope [Sally, Y&R] and Chad Duell’s [ex-Michael, GH] wedding [in October 2021]; we sat with each other, and it was really great to see him. He was like, ‘I would love to get you back to General Hospital.’ At that time, I was still on Bold and Beautiful and I wasn’t even discussing it with him." After her B&B exit, she mused, "[It] just really seemed like an absolutely perfect time to have Lois come back." The actress enthused, "I’ve played a lot of characters in my career and Lois is probably one of the top three characters I’ve ever played in 37 years of being an actress. So to be able to go back and do it was unreal.”

In 2024 on Days of Our Lives, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) finally remembered the true identity of the hit-and-run driver who struck her down, rendering her paralyzed: it was not Brady, as Sarah had previously believed, but rather the other person who had been in the vehicle that fateful night — Fiona (Serena Scott Thomas), her mother-in-law! She had a flash of recollection and when she realized she had seen Fiona behind the wheel, she gasped, "Oh, my God!"
