In 1983, Marla Adams made her Young and Restless debut as Dina Mergeron, John Abbott's ex-wife and the estranged mother of Ashley Abbott, Jack Abbott and Traci Abbott. Dina had abandoned her brood years ago, and Dina's return ushered in the revelation of the long-held secret that Ashley's biological father was not John, but a lover of Dina's named Brent Davis. Adams won a Daytime Emmy for her work in the role in 2021.

In 1999, on General Hospital, Carly Roberts (Sarah Brown) tied the knot with AJ Quartermaine (Billy Warlock), the biological father of her son, Michael. He had only recently learned via Robin Scorpio that he was, indeed, Michael's father. Against Jason's wishes, Carly decided to safeguard her custody of Michael by marrying AJ, then driving him to drink and securing proof that he was an unfit father. By the end of the year, Carly had fallen into bed with her next husband, Sonny Corinthos.

In 2003, Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer Horton Deveraux (Melissa Reeves) remarried on Days of Our Lives. Costume Designer Richard Bloore, who designed the bride's look, shared with Soap Opera Digest, "I decided I wanted to do something very romantic and fantasy-themed. I talked to Missy and she wanted a tight waist and a full sleeve. I found a grouping of different fabrics and made a cross between a fairy-tale princess and Camelot. The dress has an empire – but fitted – waist, so it gives her an A-line look." He added, "The dress is made out of three different fabrics. The skirt of the dress is more of a Georgette embroidered and pearled piece of fabric. The underskirts are two-ply silk. I did a little lace trim across the bodice and pearl trim to the square neckline, and then the vest itself is a heavy silk satin that is again embroidered with pearls. The ribbons are satin. I also sewed on some lochrosen, which are basically rhinestones that sparkle.”

In 2011, Chad DiMera (Casey Jon Deidrick) and Abigail Deveraux (Kate Mansi) shared their first kiss. While the role of Chad was ultimately recast with Billy Flynn, and Marci Miller assumed the role of Abigail, the pair went on to become one of the show's most popular duos, marrying several times and welcoming two children, Thomas and Charlotte, before Abigail was tragically murdered.

Howarth had previously played Todd Manning, his former One Life to Live character, on the show, followed by the role of Franco. Austin was killed off in 2023.
