In 2001, Eddie Alderson (pictured in 2004) made his One Life to Live debut as Matthew Buchanan, son of Nora and Bo Buchanan. The young actor's real-life big sister, Kristen Alderson, had already been a member of the OLTL cast since 1998, when she was hired to play Starr Manning, the daughter of Todd and Blair Manning. Alderson held the role of Matthew through to the show's final episode in 2012.

In 2002 on Young and Restless, Isabella Braña (Eva Longoria) and Paul Williams's (Doug Davidson) son, Ricky, was born via emergency C-section after doctors diagnosed the mother-to-be with pregnancy-induced hypertension. Ricky was raised primarily off-camera and returned to Genoa City in 2011 as an adult. After Ricky kidnapped Eden Baldwin and was poised to kill her, Paul shot his own son dead in order to spare Eden's life.
