In 1984 on General Hospital, Lou Swenson (Danielle von Zerneck) died when she hit her head during a struggle with Steffi Brand, Blackie Parrish's (John Stamos) manager. Lou had uncovered the truth that Blackie had stolen his hit song from hotel bellboy Josh Clayton and confronted Blackie with evidence of his crime. Steffi tried to snatch the incriminating recording out of Lou's hands, leading to the unfortunate accident that claimed Lou's life. A guilt-ridden Blackie took responsibility for her death and went to jail for manslaughter.

In 1984, Young and Restless's Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) examined the results of her facelift. Cooper had made the decision to undergo the procedure, and the operation was incorporated into her storyline, with actual footage of her surgery appearing on the show. As she prepared to have her bandages removed, Kay confided in Liz Foster that she was anxious about seeing her face. The doctor entered and peeled off the bandages, reminding Kay that her face had yet to fully heal and telling her not to be alarmed by what she saw. Kay was, indeed, taken aback by her reflection in the mirror.

In 2011, Kourtney Kardashian, r., guest-starred on One Life to Live, appearing in scenes with David Fumero (Christian Vega) and Kassie DePaiva (Blair Cramer). Ali explained to Soap Opera Digest, “I definitely wanted to play it as a vulnerable moment, but still a fighting moment.... This is something she never thought would happen. I don’t think it ever came into her mind that something like this would come onto her path! It’s a very shocking moment for her.” The actress also noted that Trina knew exactly who was responsible for her predicament. “At this point, Trina gets it. There is no real question [in her mind]. Trina is fully aware that Esme is no good, and she’s showing her true colors."
