In 1984, Charles Shaughnessy made his Days of Our Lives debut as Shane Donovan, who was originally introduced as an undercover operative posing as Larry Welch's butler. The actor recalled to Soap Opera Digest in 2023, "My audition for DAYS was to play a man called 'McShane, Mystery Man' who was terrorizing Hope in a basement. I went in with a leather jacket and jeans and stubble, looking more like Patch than Shane, as this Cockney thug terrorizing Hope and it was great fun. Then they cast me and made me this incredibly good guy." Shane's pairing with Patsy Pease's Kimberly Brady made Shaughnessy one of the show's most popular leading men during his original run, which ended in 1992, and included the actor winning three Soap Opera Digest Awards, one for Outstanding Male Newcomer and two alongside Pease for Favorite Supercouple. 

In 2009, Bold and Beautiful's Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) interrupted Ridge Forrester and Taylor Hayes's wedding on horseback, after discovering Steffy's underhanded efforts to keep her away so that her parents would successfully remarry. With a gasp, Brooke realized that Steffy had tricked her by having her messages to Ridge forwarded to her own phone. "He's getting married," she said aloud. "I've got to stop him!" By the time Brooke arrived at her destination, she was disheveled, and the minister was about to pronounce Ridge and Taylor husband and wife. But Brooke barged in and declared, "There isn’t going to be a wedding today!”

In 2018, General Hospital’s Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) gave her newborn son, Jonah, to Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) to raise as Wiley with his unwitting husband, Lucas Jones. This kicked off the multiyear arc in which Nelle convinced Michael that their newborn son had died, when in truth he had been switched with Willow's son with Shiloh, who Brad and Lucas had been poised to adopt, and had sadly passed away. Eventually the boy was returned to Michael, and Willow adopted him.

In 2015 on General Hospital, Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) entered Silas Clay's (Michael Easton) apartment and found Nina Reeves (Michelle Stafford) hovering over Silas's lifeless body, clutching a knife covered in blood. This marked the end of Michael Easton's two-year run as Silas, his second GH character (he had originally played his One Life to Live alter ego, John McBain, on the show from 2012-13). Silas's killer turned out to be Nina's mother, Madeline Reeves, who was played by Donna Mills. Easton admitted to Soap Opera Digest in 2023 that he had felt “a bit of a disconnect” with Silas. Posthumously, Silas was revealed to be the father of not one but two daughters by Nina, Nelle and Willow. "He’s certainly had a very active life since he’s been dead," the actor joked.

In 2019, Gabi Hernandez (then-Camila Banus) and Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash) wed for the first time on Days of Our Lives. The duo was racing against the clock to tie the knot before Nicole — who, unbeknownst to them, was actually Kristen posing as Nicole — managed to marry a DiMera herself, a play to secure power at DiMera Enterprises. Gabi told Stefan, "We may not know what she's doing, but we know that she's up to something," concluding, "We need to get married — immediately." Stefan and Gabi quickly exchanged vows, but little did they know, at the exact same moment, "Nicole" was also saying, "I do" — to Tony DiMera!
