In 1989, Darlene Conley made her Bold and Beautiful debut as Sally Spectra. Prior to creating the memorable character, Conley appeared on Young and Restless as the leader of a black market baby ring, Rose DeVille. In the episode, Clarke Garrison, frustrated after Eric Forrester refused to give him a pay raise at Forrester Creations, reached out to Sally, his old boss. Sally's first scene took place at a restaurant, when she got word someone was trying to reach her. She agreed to take the call and was intrigued when she discovered the voice on the other line belonged to Clarke.

In 1995, an Elvis impersonator officiated the nuptials of One Life to Live’s Tina Lord (Krista Tesreau) and David Vickers (Tuc Watkins), who eloped to Las Vegas. Tina had found herself drawn to David and had a tough time shaking her attraction to him even when he claimed to be the heir to Victor Lord's fortune — her half brother! After the pair made love, David confessed that they were not, in fact, related, and she agreed to help him in his scheme to claim the money. After a slight wrinkle — Obrecht, Nathan's mother, objected to the wedding, seething that she had been invited last-minute via text — the ceremony continued, and Nathan told his bride, "I met you when I needed to the most. I was focused on my own pain. And then you opened that door," a reference to their first meeting at her apartment, "and in so doing, opened up my heart again."
