Young and Restless’s Joshua Morrow on Nick and Sharon’s Kiss: ‘The Moment Felt Right’ (EXCL)
The trip to Aristotle Dumas’s estate in France has brought about some big changes on Young and Restless as the mysterious businessman was revealed to be Cane Ashby, three people were left dead, and in the July 28 episode, Sharon and Nick shared a kiss. “Things have been sort of slowly building to this for them,” Joshua Morrow (Nick) tells Soap Opera Digest of the turning-point moment. “They came to France to get away in this very romantic environment. Obviously, things go haywire pretty quickly, but Nick gets involved in this sort of life-or-death situation, and Sharon’s doing everything she can for him, and Nick knows that. They certainly have a ton of history, and I think in that moment they’re finally left alone, and… it just happens.”
Heightened Emotions
Sharon and Nick have had a romantic history full of ups and downs ever since Sharon Case and Morrow each joined the cast of Y&R back in 1994. The pair had settled into what appeared to be a solid friendship, but recent events, such as Sharon’s kidnapping and Nick receiving a life-threatening injury after being accused of murder, have brought them even closer together.
“I think things have been trending in this direction,” Morrow allows. “They’ve had several moments where they’ve sort of locked eyes, and that old Nick/Sharon feeling is grabbing onto them. But there’s just been so much happening in France with Dumas and Cane and all this intrigue that it wasn’t really something they were thinking about.”
Of course, once Nick and Sharon were placed under house arrest by Cane and Nick was badly wounded protecting her from one of Cane’s thugs, all those emotions came flooding to the surface. “When he gets injured, he can tell that Sharon is moving heaven and earth to try and help him and she’s by his side,” the actor relates. “He obviously has very strong feelings for her and they’ve got a rich history and the moment felt right for them, so they kissed.”

A Long Road Ahead
However, Morrow urges the die-hard “Shick” fans not to get too excited at this point in time, as Sharon and Nick won’t be jumping back into a romantic relationship immediately following the kiss. “They have to talk about it later and sort of assess where things are with them,” he previews. “It’s not to the place that particular fan base is screaming for yet, but it could happen… We’ll see.”
Still, the actor notes that things are definitely heading in the right direction for fans of this couple. “I mean, they’ve got to like what they’re seeing so far as far as them reconnecting in that way,” Morrow muses. “They sort of settled into a nice, easy, friendly parenting role. Things have certainly ratcheted up since then, between them, just with smaller moments. I think they both are sort of careful. They’ve been down this path, and if it does go the way it sort of looks like it’s going, I think they want to make sure that everybody’s in the right headspace and they’re comfortable and ready. So I don’t think it’s anything that’s going to be rushed, but who knows?”
What the Future Holds
For his part, Morrow admits he can’t decide himself whether Sharon and Nick are better as friends or lovers. Mostly because he knows that if Y&R puts them back together, something terrible will inevitably happen to split them up again, and it’ll probably be Nick’s fault.
“It’s tough,” he declares. “It’s tough because they’ve hurt each other so badly, and most of that comes from a place of deep love. So it is difficult for me, because I know that unless the show is planning to keep them together forever — which I can’t in any way see that happening, because this is a soap opera — then the fallout from the ‘Shick’ fans who — they actually hate Nick when he’s not with Sharon. They’re really tough on him.
“So,” Morrow continues, “I’d like to think that if it happens, Nick’s not going to let her down in some way or hurt her. But based on his previous track record, I don’t know if I see that happening. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Nick and Sharon have a serious problem, and that is Nick has a Phyllis problem. He can never completely cut the ties with her, and that’s always going to be a problem in this relationship.”
