Who Is Patty Williams on The Young and the Restless? Her Sordid History Explained!
It’s been a decade since Patty Williams was on Young and Restless, but in February 2026, it was revealed that Stacy Haiduk — who also portrays Kristen DiMera and Susan Banks on Days of Our Lives — was bringing Patty back to Y&R again to stir up more trouble. Patty first appeared in 1980, played briefly by Tammy Taylor before Lilibet Stern took over. She remained in the role until 1983; Patty was then recast with Andrea Evans (ex-Tina, One Life to Live) from 1983-84. When the character returned to the canvas in October 2009, Haiduk played both Patty and her look-alike, Emily Peterson. After her exit in August 2010, Haiduk returned for additional stints from 2011-12 and 2015-16 and officially came back to the canvas as Patty on March 6.
Wedded Miss
The younger sister of Paul Williams, Patty was a rebellious teen who fell for Jack Abbott, and the businessman found her a refreshing change of pace. She was thrilled when he offered to make her a top model at Jabot, but even more excited when he popped the question, not realizing that he’d only done proposed marriage so that his father, John Abbott, would reward him with the presidency of Jabot. The night before the wedding, Jack got drunk and spent the night with Diane Jenkins, and they were found in bed together the morning of the wedding by his sister, Ashley Abbott. She agreed to keep quiet but warned her brother not to hurt Patty.

Patty’s marriage to Jack got off to a rocky start. She wanted them to get a place of their own, but he insisted on staying in the Abbott mansion to keep an eye on his father, who was newly married to Jill Abbott. Patty also wanted to start a family, which was the furthest thing from his mind. Jack continued his affair with Diane, and when Patty eventually caught them in an intimate moment together, she ran away and fell down the stairs, causing her to miscarry her unborn child. Later, she overheard Jack making an appointment for a vasectomy and confiding in Jill he’d only married Patty to get the Jabot presidency. Flying into a rage, Patty confronted Jack in his office and shot him. She then lost all memory of the incident and dutifully cared for her husband as he recovered.
When Patty eventually recalled the shooting, she divorced Jack and tried to start over, falling for Danny Romalotti, but he ended up marrying a pregnant Traci Abbott to give her child a father. When Patty confronted Traci about her growing feelings for Danny, the argument led to Traci taking a tumble down the stairs and losing the baby. Distraught, Patty left town to start over somewhere else.
Double Trouble
In 2009, Patty returned to Genoa City, going by the name Mary Jane Benson and with a whole new look: She had undergone plastic surgery, which was funded by Victor Newman, who wanted her to cozy up to Jack and destroy Jabot. But Victor’s plan fell apart as Patty proved unstable, which became very clear because she had her dead cat stuffed and would carry Mr. Kitty around with her, chatting with him and sharing her nefarious plans. After using peanuts to give Summer Newman an allergic reaction to split up Jack and Phyllis Summers, Patty went into hiding and later took Colleen Carlton hostage. Tragically, when the young woman tried to escape, she fell into the lake and drowned. Confronted by Victor, Patty shot her benefactor and took off into the woods, where Paul found her and convinced her to turn herself in.

When Patty’s psychiatrist, Emily Peterson, arrived in town, it was revealed that she had the face Patty had stolen for her new look! While Jack was initially taken aback by the resemblance, he soon fell for Emily, and they became engaged. Learning of their plans, a jealous Patty knocked out Emily and left her in her room at the mental hospital so she could be free to take the shrink’s place at the wedding. As Jack grew suspicious of his new bride’s odd behavior, he adopted a cat, knowing Emily was allergic to felines. Patty tried to swap back with Emily, but Jack had figured it out, and the jig was up.
Sentenced to return to the psych ward in 2010, Patty was also suspected of killing Adam Newman, though it was later revealed that the dead man was actually Richard Hightower, and she was not responsible for his death. Sent to the same hospital after faking a breakdown, Adam helped Patty escape and flee to Canada. She was later seen in Brazil with red hair and going by the name Mary Jane.
Number One With a Bullet
Following an explosion at Genevieve Atkinson’s home in 2011, her housekeeper, Myrna Murdock, was badly burned. But as Genevieve and Jack grew closer, it was revealed that Myrna was really Patty, and she schemed to keep the pair apart. She even pretended to be Emily again, asking Jack not to marry Genevieve and reunite with her instead, but he gently turned her down. When Adam later found her with a gun, she threw acid in his face. Discovering that Genevieve was planning to leave Jack, Patty stole her wedding dress and showed up at the church for the ceremony. When she revealed her face, Jack thought she was Emily, so a furious Patty put a bullet in his gut!

Patty was quickly apprehended and sent to a high-security prison until Paul got her transferred to Fairview Psychiatric Hospital for proper treatment. Paul paid his sister some visits, where he was dismayed to see that her condition wasn’t improving.
I’ve Got a Secret
In 2015, Patty encountered Sharon Newman, who had checked herself into Fairview after suffering a miscarriage. Discovering that Dr. Sandra Anderson was drugging Sharon to convince her that she was still pregnant, Patty escaped to tell Sharon’s husband, Dylan McAvoy, what was going on. But at a big Halloween party, she spotted Jack and Phyllis and got into a fight with them instead. When a fire broke out, Patty was presumed dead, but in fact, Ian Ward — who had set the fire — found her and invited her to go on the run with him.
After Patty was found living on the streets (Ian had dumped her), she was sent back to Fairview, where she learned Sharon had supposedly given birth. Patty realized that Dr. Anderson had stolen Nick Newman and Sage Warner’s newborn son, Christian, and given him to Sharon, who named him Sully. When Patty confronted the doctor, Sandra admitted she’d stolen Nick’s baby to get revenge on the guy and tried to stab Patty. But Patty killed her instead and then went into a catatonic state, unable to tell anyone the truth. Later, Patty regained her memory and revealed the truth to Sharon, who tried to keep her from telling anyone else the baby wasn’t hers, but she managed to contact Nick, and the truth finally came out.

In March 2026, Jack woke up locked in a cabin on a boat and was stunned when Patty walked into the room.
