The Young and the Restless: Stephanie Reveals That Holden is Malcolm’s Son!

Comments

Huge family secrets were revealed in the April 8 episode of Young and Restless as Lily (Christel Khalil) worried about Malcom (Shemar Moore), who was in for a huge surprise when Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox) introduced him o Holden (Nathan Owens) — his son! Here’s how it all went down.

A Matter of Life or Death

At the Genoa City Athletic Club, Lily promised Malcolm she wouldn’t say anything to Devon or Nate about his aplastic anemia diagnosis until he gave her the okay. Malcolm didn’t want to tell anyone about his condition until he knew he had a solution, and she agreed to keep it quiet. Lily worried what would happen if he couldn’t find a match, and he assured her there were things he could do to buy more time. She hoped that, as his biological daughter, she’d be a match and could donate the life-saving bone marrow.

Lily was taken aback when Malcolm explained he would be receiving treatment in New York and that Stephanie Simmons was his doctor. He related how her aunt Olivia introduced them years ago, and that Stephanie was also in town as well. In fact, he was heading out to meet her. Lily told him she would arrange for a test to see if she was a match, and he assured her that even if she wasn’t, things would work out in the end.

On the patio at Crimson Lights, Holden worried that since his father died young, he had inherited his heart problem, but Stephanie assured him that wasn’t the case. She told him that his father was a good man, but when she met Jerry, she was already pregnant. She insisted that he’d known the truth and raised Holden as his own until his death. Holden wanted to know who his biological father was, and she revealed that the man in question didn’t know he had a son. Holden was reeling from this bombshell when she added that his father needs help, and he might be able to give it to him. Just then, Stephanie saw Malcolm walk in, and she excused herself to greet him.

Family Reunion

Malcolm informed Stephanie that he’d spoken to Lily about being a donor. She wasn’t surprised Lily would agree to be tested, but explained that his daughter wasn’t a viable donor because she’d had cancer. Malcolm was shattered and felt terrible laying all this on Lily, but Stephanie assured him she wasn’t his only option. He assumed she meant putting him on a list and waiting for another donor, but she corrected him, saying, “There’s something that I need to tell you that could change everything. Not could. It will.” Just then, Holden entered from the patio.

Stephanie asked her son to sit down. Adding that this wasn’t how she had wanted to do this, Stephanie said there wasn’t time to wait any longer. Malcolm didn’t understand, but Holden’s face made it clear that he’d already put the pieces together. “He’s my son, Malcolm,” she explained. “And yours.” Malcolm listened, stunned, as Stephanie explained that she had been pregnant when she left for New York after their brief romance all those years ago. She then fell in love with a doctor, Jerry Novak. They discussed telling Malcolm about the baby, but she didn’t want to ruin what he was building with Olivia at the time. Jerry died young and Stephanie hadn’t wanted to betray his memory by telling Malcolm and Holden the truth. Plus, after Malcolm had been presumed dead, she grieved and moved on, pointed out Stephanie. But now, she continued, this crisis has brought them all together.

When Holden asked what they needed from him, Malcolm realized Holden was in the dark about his diagnosis. Stephanie was happy for the father and son to bond over hating her, but first, they had to focus on why they came to Genoa City. Holden asked if he was sick, and Malcolm revealed he needed stem cells from a healthy donor. Holden sighed, “And here I am, the genetic jackpot.” He asked if there were any other options and was taken aback when Malcolm shared that Holden had a sister, but she wasn’t a viable donor. Stephanie apologized for keeping this secret all this time, but urged them to stay on target, promising they’d hash everything out once Malcolm was well. Malcolm wanted to tell Lily what was going on, and Holden was shaken to learn that she was his sister. He mentioned the portrait of her father, Neil, and Malcolm explained that Neil was his brother.

Stephanie was surprised to learn Holden and Lily were friends, but he admitted they were more like “acquaintances with complications.” Malcolm knew this was a big ask, but hoped Holden would be willing to help him. Holden was upset that his mother never mentioned anything about her past in Genoa City, even when he said he was coming here, but she was laser-focused on saving Malcolm’s life and begged her son to get tested, insisting, “You might be the only person who can save his life.”

Back at the CGAC, Lily rebuffed Cane (Billy Flynn) when he noticed she looked sad and offered to listen. She then called the doctor to schedule an appointment for the blood test and was crushed to learn that her battle with cancer meant she was not a viable donor and couldn’t help Malcolm.
