The Young and the Restless: Who Are Lily’s Mother and Father? Her Family Tree Explained
Family trees can get pretty tangled on soaps, so it’s only natural that some fans might want some clarification as to who Lily’s mother and father are on Young and Restless. She’s got just the one mom, but two dads (and a few siblings, as well as her own children). We’ll untangle those branches and explain everything.
Who Is Lily’s Father?
Back in 1994, Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) learned she was pregnant — but while her husband, Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John), was eager to start a family, she wasn’t sure if the baby was actually his. Previously, while Neil was away on a business trip, she had been under the weather with a cold and heavily medicated — and she wound up having sex with with someone she thought, in her delirium, was Neil but was, in fact, his younger brother, Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore), who wrongly assumed that she desired him. When Malcolm confirmed that he was the one she had been intimate with that fateful night, she initially thought about terminating the pregnancy. But upon learning she had a condition that could make it difficult for her to conceive again, Dru decided to give Neil the child he’d dreamed of, and she and Malcolm agreed to keep their liaison a secret forever. She gave birth to baby Lily in 1995.
In 2006, when Lily was a teenager, Dru was under some pressure from Malcolm and decided to find out who her daughter’s true biological father was once and for all. A DNA test proved that Malcolm sired Lily, but they decided to keep their findings under wraps. But Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) found out about the test, and Lily overheard the shocking truth about her lineage when she overheard the women arguing. She wound up revealing the truth to Neil, who was devastated, but Neil and Lily agreed that no matter what, they considered themselves father and daughter. That remained true until until his sudden death in 2019, when he passed away in his sleep from a stroke. As for Dru, she was presumed dead back in 2007.
Lily’s Extended Family
Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) became Lily’s brother when he was adopted by Dru and Neil in 2006. Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) is the son of Lily’s aunt, Olivia Barber, and the late Nathan Hastings Sr., making him her cousin. (During his 1997-99 marriage to Olivia, Malcolm also helped raise Nate, who referred to him as Dad.) Lily also has a younger brother, Moses, whose parents are Neil and Sofia Dupree.
Lily’s immediate family also includes her children, Charlie and Mattie Ashby. She and ex-husband Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) welcomed the twins back in 2010 with the help of a surrogate, Mackenzine Browning, because Lily had suffered from ovarian cancer and had to have a hysterectomy.
