The Bold and the Beautiful: What is the Hope for the Future Diamond?

Comments

When Wyatt (Darin Brooks) returned to The Bold and the Beautiful canvas on Wednesday, May 27, viewers soon learned why Bill (Don Diamont) had summoned him home: to gain possession of the Hope for the Future diamond! The gem was first featured on the show in 2013, the same year Wyatt was introduced on B&B. Need a refresher on the diamond’s significance? We’ve got you covered!

Diamond in the Rough

In 2013, Wyatt began crushing on Hope (then-Kim Matula) and got a job working at Forrester. Liam (Scott Clifton) was jealous of how closely Wyatt, his newly discovered half brother, and Hope were working together, and Wyatt’s meddling mama, Quinn (Rena Sofer), worked tirelessly to undermine Hope and Liam’s relationship so that her son could be with the object of his desire even as Liam and Hope planned to marry.

At Quinn’s behest, Wyatt and Hope traveled to Mexico to see the infamous Hope Diamond, a beautiful blue 40-carat rock worth a cool $100 million. Quinn wanted Wyatt and Hope to persuade her pal Ricardo (Victor Rivers) to loan the jewel out for a Hope for the Future fashion show, and they agreed it would be great publicity. In Mexico, Hope and Wyatt worked as a team to charm Ricardo into agreeing to loan out the diamond, which the man insisted had magical powers that could lead people to their destinies. Hope bonded with Ricardo over that, given that destiny is one of her mom, Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang), favorite topics.

Before they headed back to Los Angeles, Wyatt told Hope what she meant to him and begged her not to marry his brother. They touched the ring at the same time and Wyatt vowed that one day, he would marry her and give her that ring. The following week, Hope wore the diamond (now set into a necklace) at the fashion show. And wouldn’t you know it, Hope began to have doubts about marrying Liam, convinced he was hung up on his ex, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).

What’s Mine is Yours

After the big show, the diamond was put on display at the Forrester Boutique on Rodeo Drive, and customers lined up to admire the gorgeous gem. Wyatt then stole the diamond and planted it on actual would-be thieves. He was hailed as a hero by Hope when he recovered the jewel and the publicity further boosted HFTF’s sales. Wyatt was overjoyed when Hope ended things with Liam and began dating him, but she left him when Liam and Forrester security guard Charlie (Dick Christie) proved that Wyatt had orchestrated the “heist.”

Ricardo died under mysterious circumstances in 2014 and bequeathed the massive diamond to a stunned Wyatt. Before his passing, Ricardo made a video explaining that he was giving the jewel to Wyatt because he had no family or close friends. Wyatt explained to Hope’s father, Deacon (Sean Kanan), that the gem had magical powers, as it had brought him and Hope closer together. Deacon reviewed Ricardo’s video and suspected that the man had embedded clues in his message that hinted at a history with Quinn — and that Ms. Fuller may even have had a hand in the man’s demise. Wyatt also believed there might be some truth to this, but Quinn adamantly denied the accusation.

Opposite this, Wyatt was convinced that the diamond’s special powers were going to reunite him with Hope and he presented the jewel to her. She was reluctant to accept such a lavish gift, but he insisted that the diamond was hers and called a press conference to seal the deal. In the end, his wish of marrying Hope did come true — it was the “staying married” to her part that didn’t quite pan out.
