Soap Newcomer – Marci Miller
How was Abigail described to you?
“All I knew was that she was this ingenue who was sensitive, strong and sassy.”
Had you ever watched soaps before?
“My mom watched DAYS when I was growing up, so there were a few summers where I was very familiar with the John and Marlena storyline and Marlena getting kidnapped by Stefano.”
Does anything stand out about your first day?
“It was Deidre Hall’s [Marlena] 40th anniversary and she was getting her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We were on such opposite ends of the spectrum; she had been on for 40 years and is the queen of the show, and I was on day one.”
Have you done anything to personalize your dressing room?
“I’ve put out some flowers and some cards and things that people have sent to me. Just this week I was starting to think, ‘It’s starting to feel real homey in here.’ ”
What has been your most memorable fan encounter thus far?
“I’m from this tiny town of 1,500 people. I went into this old thrift store there and the woman behind the register looked at me. When I went up to pay, I saw a Soap Opera Digest sitting on the counter. She said, ‘You look so much like the girl who’s the new Abigail on DAYS!’ I was like, ‘I am the girl who’s the new Abigail.’ She reached across the counter, grabbed me with both hands, and said, ‘I can’t believe I just met a real person!’ It was so sweet.”
What was the first scene that made you nervous?
“Definitely my first love scene. I just kept patting Billy [Flynn, Chad] on the shoulder and saying, ‘You’re my hero, man,’ because I was just a nervous wreck!”
