Hayden Panettiere’s Cause of Death Revealed
The death of Hayden Panettiere was ruled an accident by the Greenville, SC County Coronor’s Office, which attributed her passing to the toxic effects of fentanyl and other drugs.
What Caused Hayden Panettiere’s Death?
Panettiere, who launched her acting career playing Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live from 1994 until 1997 and Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light from 1996-2000 before going on to star in primetime series like Heroes and Nashville, died in Greenville on August 16 at the age of 36.
People reports that, according to the coroner’s report, traces of Alparazolam (also known as Xanax), Methocarbamol (a muscle relaxant), and Quetiapine, a medication used to treat bipolar disorder and schizophrenia but is sometimes prescribed to treat depression, were found in Panettiere’s system, along with fentanyl.
An official investigation into Panettiere’s death remains ongoing. That investigation is being led by the Greenville Police Department, though ABC News and other outlets report that the Drug Enforcement Administration is also involved in the case, describing it as a “cross-country investigation” stretching from South Carolina to California.
TMZ reported on September 14 that law enforcement officials believed Panettiere had consumed an oxycodone that was laced with fentanyl on the morning of her death and that authorities were actively investigating the “long time drug dealer” believed to have supplied her with the tainted pill.
