General Hospital’s Jason Is Out of The Mob — But Is It For Good?
Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) has left the mob on General Hospital. On the August 3 episode, he told Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) that he wanted out of his organization, citing his desire to set a better example for his son, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn). Though it clearly pained him, Sonny agreed to let him go, and the men reaffirmed their friendship.
The end of the men’s professional comes nearly 30 years after Jason first began working for Sonny in 1996, not long after Jason sustained personality-altering brain damage after being injured in a car crash.
Since then, Jason has been a key figure in Sonny’s organization, with the two men’s partnership becoming one of the longest-running connections not only on GH, but in all of daytime. The men have not only worked together, but forged a brotherhood.
Is Jason Morgan Really Done With The Mob?
Yet each man has gone through periods of questioning whether a life of organized crime was what they truly wanted. Indeed, the show has explored what happens when Jason or Sonny has tried to get out of the business on multiple occasions.

Each time, the results were the same: story eventually brought them back into the mafia fold, whether because of a new threat to the organization, a personal crisis or other circumstances that (conveniently for the writers, inconveniently for the characters) pulled them back into the business.
Given that Jason and Sonny have repeatedly found themselves connected to the mob after attempting to walk away, Jason stepping away this time is likely to be met with some skepticism by GH viewers.
But some things are different this time around. Jason is not only coming off multiple presumed deaths and a recent traumatic stint in a WSB prison in Jakarta, but he is now a single parent to Danny, whose mom, Sam (Kelly Monaco), died in 2024, and he’s also lost his own mother, Monica (Leslie Charleson), whose fondest wish was that Jason leave the mob.
With that being said, do you think Jason’s exit from the mob finally stick? Or will he eventually return to Sonny’s organization, as he has in the past?
