General Hospital’s Finn Carr On ‘Awesome’ New Scene Partner, Rocco’s Tension With Lulu And More (EXCL)

Comments

Ever since his character, Rocco Falconeri, learned that Britt Westbourne gave birth to him after stealing an embryo belonging to his parents, Finn Carr has been in the thick of the action on General Hospital. Curious to learn more about the supposedly deceased Britt, Rocco made contact with her mother, Liesl Obrecht, which sent his folks, Lulu Spencer and Dante Falconeri, into a tizzy. Soap Opera Digest checked in with the young actor about Rocco’s tension with his mom and dad, sharing scenes with Steve Burton (Jason) and more.

Soap Opera Digest: This storyline has brought you several new GH scene partners — not only did you have your first scenes with Kathleen Gati (Obrecht) recently, but we’ve seen you interact more with Steve Burton. What has it been like to work with him?

Finn Carr: I was very excited to get the opportunity to work with Steve! He’s such a great guy, an awesome guy, and a very talented actor. Having those scenes with him was a blast. I really got to go at him with emotion and have him give a lot back. It was really cool to be able to play off of him and have more serious scenes with him. I think they turned out really nice.

Digest: What do you think it meant to Rocco to have someone speak fondly of Britt rather than bash her to him?

Carr: I think that’s just what Rocco was looking for. This lady gave birth to him and so he feels some kind of connection with her, and then he finds out that she’s this, like, terribly person. So, going to Jason, it was like, “Finally, I’m hearing something nice about this lady!” I think he’s very grateful for Jason to being willing to talk to him about Britt and that he has nice things to say about her is really nice for him to hear. His parents are only talking bad about her, and so it’s nice for him to get more of a three-dimensional outlook on her as a person.

Digest: There have also been some lovely scenes between Rocco and his grandmother Laura, played by Genie Francis, who he has opened up to about his interest in Britt and his conflict with his parents over it.

Carr: I loved those scenes! There’s this sort of special thing that happens when I get to do scenes with her. Of course, there’s a lot of talking going on in soap operas; there are a lot of lines that you have to get through, and a lot of emotions that you have to really dial in. But the best part is when you get to work with someone like Genie where she just has this effect on you that makes all that sort of stuff go away. The emotions just come out; you don’t have to try, you can just act, and it’s really nice. You can just go through the scenes without focusing on trying to remember your lines or remember the emotions that you were wanting to come out in those scenes. You can just take your time with them and let them play out and I find that in those scenes with her, I’m always discovering a lot. I think they were really cool scenes and I think that if you want to see what Rocco is really feeling, looking at the scenes he has with Laura are going to give you the best window into what he is going through, because I think he is the most open and honest with her.

Digest: Rocco’s first meeting with Obrecht went well on both sides, and they hung out again at the Metro Court pool, which did not make Lulu and Dante happy. What is Rocco’s take on them being so upset to see him with Britt’s mom?

Carr: Rocco’s mom is quick to protect him, so there were definitely some strong emotions going on in those scenes. Rocco doesn’t see it as a big deal. He sort of just sees it as getting to know a little bit more about Britt, and, making a new friend, I guess — someone who he can talk to a little bit. But Lulu and his dad definitely do not see it that way! Lulu got pretty aggressive, telling her to get out of her chair, all that fun stuff [laughs]. You definitely got to see Alexa [Havins, Lulu] being quite a mama bear and protecting Rocco, even though Rocco doesn’t really see himself as needing any protecting.

Digest: It seems more like Rocco is upset not only that his parents are trying to stand in the way of his pursuit of this friendship with Obrecht, but that they are opposed to him trying to discover more about Britt in general.

Carr: He does sort of feel like they’re trying to stop him from finding out the truth, or finding out more information. I think it’s definitely just that Lulu doesn’t want Rocco to feel like he has another mom, that she’s not any less of a mom to him and stuff like that. She’s always coming from a place of care and love, but Rocco definitely sees it a bit more as her impeding on his right to have some more information. So there is definitely some tension there, but their relationship is still nice and strong. It’s just having a few speed bumps.

Digest: Out of curiosity, Finn, did you know that Obrecht once mind-controlled a brainwashed Dante via a pen that she clicked to activate him? Did that pop up in Rocco’s Spyder-Finder research into her past misdeeds?

Carr: I did not [laughs]! I don’t think Rocco knows that, either. Maybe if he did, it would change how he feels, but he’s definitely sort of glazing over the bad stuff that she’s done. He’s seeing her differently, seeing how she’s changed. There’s even a line where he says something like, “She’s not anything like the woman I’ve read about online.” Rocco sees how much she cared about and loved Britt. She just seems like a nice, loving lady. That’s how she’s coming across to him. I don’t know if there are any changes that are going to come into her character later, but right now, Rocco is going hook, line and sinker into being best friends with Dr. Obrecht.
