General Hospital Recap: Sonny and Sidwell Clash as Port Charles Gathers for Marco’s Funeral

Comments

On the Friday, April 3, episode of General Hospital, most of Port Charles gathered to pay their respects to Marco (Adrian Anchondo). Carly (Laura Wright) advised Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Ric (Rick Hearst) against attending the funeral, Ava (Maura West) and Lucy (Lynn Herring) put aside their squabbling for the day, Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) had a warning for Jordan (Tanisha Harper), Lucas (Van Hansis) made a promise to his late boyfriend, and a grieving Sidwell (Carlo Rota) vowed revenge against Sonny. Elsewhere in town, Cody (Josh Kelly) was by Molly’s (Kristen Vaganos) side when she woke up from surgery, Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Curtis (Donnell Turner) repaired their friendship, and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) tried to guide Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) through a struggle. Keep on reading to see how it all played out.

Fight Club

Alexis grounded Danny out after he got suspended for getting into an altercation with another student over Jason. Danny admitted that he was looking for a fight because he’d felt helpless that he couldn’t do anything when the WSB took Jason away. Alexis implored him not to get into any more trouble at school. Danny promised to keep his act together if Alexis could work another “legal miracle” as she had with Willow and bring his father home, but she said one couldn’t be contingent on the other. Frustrated that the WSB could make Jason disappear, Danny asked if he’d ever see his father again. Alexis admitted that she wasn’t sure and reminded Danny that he had lots of other family members who loved him and wanted to help him work through his grief.

Friends ‘Til The End

Curtis went to the Crimson office to get a report from Nina, so she took the opportunity to try to repair their friendship by apologizing for what she’d done to him and Portia during Willow’s trial. Curtis said he understood that Nina was desperate to protect her daughter, but that didn’t make what she did right. Nina agreed, but observed that what he’d done to her — blabbing to Willow about her affair with Drew — hadn’t been right either. Curtis apologized for that and said that he hadn’t meant to hurt her, and Nina allowed that in retrospect, he’d done her a favor. Nina went on to say that she’d always regret if her desire to protect Willow came at the cost of their friendship and that she was sorry if her actions had led to the breakup of his and Portia’s marriage. Curtis replied that he understood why Nina had wanted to protect her family, and his marriage had already been shaky. Now, he and Portia were happy with their new partners and were planning to co-parent their baby. After agreeing to work on getting their relationship back on track, Curtis and Nina had coffee in her office, and she vented about how Willow’s current situation as Drew’s caregiver had further tied her daughter to the guy.

I Wanna Be Sedated

At G.H., Kristina gave Molly some moral support before her procedure to treat her endometriosis, and Molly apologized for not being able to attend the grand reopening at Charlie’s Pub. Then, when the nurse came in to prep Molly for surgery, Kristina headed to Marco’s funeral. When Molly woke up, Cody was sitting at her bedside, holding her hand. Loopy from the anesthesia, Molly thought she was dreaming and gushed about Cody’s strong arms and his sweet heart, but later woke up from a nap with no recollection of what she’d said. Teasing that she’d been “adorable,” Cody promised to make good on his offer to take care of her as she recovered, and as they waited for Molly to be discharged, the couple planned their Caribbean vacation.

Best Of Intentions

Carly was at Sonny’s house before Marco’s funeral. She didn’t think it was a good idea for Sonny and Ric to attend the memorial, fearing it would turn into a mob war and make the day harder Lucas. Sonny insisted he wanted to prevent any trouble and that it would be wrong not to pay his respects since he and Sidwell had made peace over the sale of the piers. Ric added that Sonny’s presence would show he had nothing to hide when it came to Marco’s death, but Carly predicted that the grieving Sidwell was going to lash out if Sonny was there. After Carly left, Sonny sighed to his brother that he wished he could have told her the real reason he was attending Marco’s funeral, but Ric noted there was no reason for Carly to know about Sidwell’s blackmail. Still hoping to prevent the conflict from escalating, Sonny was determined to tell Sidwell that he wasn’t responsible for killing the man’s son — otherwise, he feared the photos of Professor Dalton in Laura’s trunk would wind up on Dante’s desk, and the tension between him and Sidwell would skyrocket.

Last Rites

Ahead of Marco’s funeral at All Saints Chapel, Lucas spoke to his late boyfriend and vowed to avenge his death, then assured Jenz that his son had loved him. In the foyer of the church, Laura told Ava that while she hadn’t known Marco, she was there to do the right thing as the mayor of Port Charles, and also to support Lucas. When Ezra entered, Ava headed inside, leaving the two politicians alone. Ezra noted that the reaction to his and Laura’s joint press conference had been positive, and he was relieved that the mayor had changed her mind when it came to distancing herself from Sonny.

Meanwhile, Jenz asked Jordan for an update, so she shared that according to her contact at the PCPD, evidence was still being examined. Jenz demanded to know if anything tied Sonny to Marco’s murder, and when Jordan said there was no definitive suspect yet, he huffed that there probably was evidence that Commissioner Falconeri was refusing to investigate. After that, Jordan chatted with Laura about the mayor’s surprising press conference with Ezra, and Laura said that she’s accepted the councilman as one of the necessary evils of the job.

As mourners continued to arrive, Lucy told Lucas that she hoped he wouldn’t leave town again. Glancing across the church to Jenz, Lucas replied that he wasn’t done with Port Charles yet. Next, Lucas shared with Isaiah that he was having a hard time reconciling the fact that he hadn’t been with Marco at the end. Later, Carly stressed to her brother that Sonny and Jason weren’t behind the tragedy that struck Marco, and Lucas assured her that he knew Jason hadn’t killed Marco.

Ava and Lucy put aside their snarking for the day as they acknowledged that they both knew how difficult it was to lose a child. As Kristina offered her condolences to Sidwell, saying that she’d be forever grateful to Marco for saving her life, Sonny and Ric arrived, prompting Jenz to state that their families would be forever linked. Ava brought Jenz inside to sit down before he could cause a scene, and Kristina worried that it might not be safe for her father to be at the funeral. Sonny told his daughter that he was there to prevent trouble, not cause it.

A Grave Situation

After the funeral, Ava complimented Lucas on his heartfelt eulogy. As Jordan and Isaiah chatted, she mentioned that Sidwell was devastated over his son’s death. Replying that Sidwell was not a good guy, Isaiah warned her not to let herself get pulled in any deeper, but Jordan insisted that she knew what she was doing. Carly offered to put Lucas up at the Metro Court while he figured out his next steps, and she was shocked when her brother stated that he was staying at Wyndemere. Explaining that Jenz was the only other person who felt the emptiness of Marco’s absence, Lucas cryptically revealed, “So, what I need is to stay close to Jenz. For now.”

In the foyer, Sonny promised Kristina that he would see her later at the opening celebration for Charlie’s. He and Ric then returned inside the church, which was empty except for Jenz. As they approached the grieving father, Sonny offered his condolences, but Jenz didn’t accept them. “I don’t believe for a second that you’re sorry,” Sidwell said ominously. “But you will be.”
