General Hospital Recap: Lulu Makes Peace, Drew Takes a Loss, and Nina Gets an Eyeful!

Comments

Relationships made some seismic shifts in the August 21 episode of General Hospital as Drew (Cameron Mathison) earned more enemies, Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) made peace, and Cody (Josh Kelly) and Molly (Kristen Vaganos) both came to realizations. Plus, Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Justine (Nazneen Contractor) continued their dangerous dance, Stella (Vernee Watson) feared the worst, and Nina (Cynthia Watros) was shocked by Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) latest move. Let us break down all the twists and turns for you!

Games People Play

At the police station, Sonny, Michael, Diane, and ADA Turner watched as Drew handed Martin the pen to sign his witness statement.  The attorney took a dramatic pause before stunning everyone by putting the pen down and walking off. Drew followed him to insist that he had to sign. “No, actually, Drew, I don’t,” Martin declared, irritated. “I’m your lawyer, not your whipping boy. I give you legal counsel, that’s all.” Drew held up his hands and apologized, expressing his desire for the attorney to simply tell the truth. Martin admitted that his memory was getting fuzzy — though he clearly remembered mentioning Stella helping him with his insurance issues, which led him to realize Drew had called the authorities on her. Drew couldn’t believe Martin was turning on him because of Stella, of all people, and told him he was fired, wishing him luck paying off his numerous ex-wives. Martin sighed and returned to the desk, where he informed Turner that he wouldn’t be signing anything. He apologized for wasting her time and shot daggers at Drew before making his exit.

Justine could barely contain her delight as she informed the congressman that, without evidence or witnesses, this case was closed. As Sonny and Michael exchanged smirks behind his back, Drew blasted the acting district attorney, declaring that Robert Scorpio wouldn’t have botched this case. When he next suggested she was on Sonny’s payroll, she coldly dismissed both the accusation and Drew. Drew snarkily congratulated Michael on his win, and Michael warned him to stay away from his children. “Oh, there’s no chance of that happening,” Drew vowed. “Willow is gonna get her kids back one way or another. No matter what I gotta do. Or who I gotta take down to do it.”

After Drew stormed off, Michael also took his leave, and Sonny asked Diane for a moment with Justine. Diane made a face and excused herself, leaving them alone to speak. Sonny thanked the ADA for her help, and she explained she was just doing her job because Drew was trying to twist the justice system for his own purposes. He warned that she’d made an enemy of Drew, but she insisted she wasn’t afraid of the vengeful politician. Justine declared she had nothing to hide, as she’d refused all the gifts Sonny had given her. The mobster playfully argued that he may not have sent them to her, and she agreed with a smile. On his way out of the station, Sonny ran into Diane, who said she knew what he was up to. “You are cultivating our acting district attorney,” the attorney declared. “I have just one question for you: Are you working her or is she working you?”

Fighting Back

At G.H., Curtis was furious that Drew was getting back at him by abusing his power to target his aunt and wanted to use Aurora Media to return the favor, but Alexis warned that attacking Drew in the press could have serious consequences. Stella agreed, admitting, “As much as we might hate it, this time, Drew won.” She pointed out that she was guilty of the crimes of which she’d been accused, even though she was only trying to help patients in need. She was willing to face the consequences of her actions, even if it meant losing her job at the hospital. Alexis reminded her that the fraud charges were serious, and she could wind up in prison.

Curtis assured his aunt he would never let that happen, and Alexis promised to give her the best defense possible. Then, Martin arrived to apologize for interrupting as well as for mentioning Stella’s help to Drew, which led him to tip off the authorities. He added that he was no longer working for the congressman and was now simply another of Drew’s many enemies. Stella urged Martin not to blame himself, and Curtis declared that Drew was the one to blame for everything. “He has targeted everyone in my family, and I have had enough,” he seethed. “He’s gotta be stopped.”

Good News/Bad News

While having lunch with Nina at the Metro Court pool, Ava grimaced when she saw Ric arrive and sit nearby with Liz. “There goes my appetite,” she groused. Nina opined that Ric was a cad, but a good attorney, which is why she hired him to represent Willow — behind her estranged daughter’s back. Ava was intrigued to learn Ric wasn’t helping Willow “out of the goodness of his cold, black heart” as Liz believed, but Nina swore her to secrecy. Ava sighed and declared she’d come up with another way to sabotage Ric and Liz.

Liz appreciated eating lunch somewhere other than the cafeteria and insisted on paying, grateful for Ric taking Willow’s case pro bono. Ric played along with the lie, claiming he also wanted to redeem himself for losing Willow’s custody case in the first place. After they finished eating and Liz returned to work, Ava approached Ric’s table to complain that their account had been locked. He insisted he was just trying to prevent her from making any large purchases for a few days, and she grudgingly accepted. After she’d gone, Ric called Alexis to join him, and when his ex arrived, he declared he had good news for her. He reported that he and Ava’s relationship had soured, and Alexis jokingly pretended to be heartbroken. When he said she just needed to give him one more payment and the blackmail would be complete, Alexis flashed back to Ava telling her the same thing, and declared this was good news.

A Shocking Revelation

Molly imagined herself as Delilah, the heroine of her period western romance novel, who was passionately in love with a man named Clint Buchanan. But as they were about to kiss, Cody pulled her out of his arms and told her to run for it. Molly jolted out of her fantasy to reveal she was sitting at her laptop in Bobbie’s, and the waitress was calling Cody’s name to say his order was ready. Molly approached to ask for some information about horses for her story, but he brusquely told her to Google it before rushing out with his food.

Molly returned to her writing but soon slammed her laptop closed in frustration as Kristina arrived. She claimed she’d been working on a brief and lost her focus because of Cody blowing her off. Kristina admitted she wasn’t Cody’s biggest fan, but explained she should go easy on the guy because he’d spent the night at the hospital after Maxie collapsed. Molly felt terrible and cried that she’d misjudged Cody again. Alone once more, Molly flashed back to some of the nice things Cody had done for her and then, on her way out of the diner, ran into Michael, who asked if something was wrong. Flustered, Molly admitted she wasn’t okay. “I think I have feelings for Cody!” she exclaimed.

Cody brought the food to Felicia in Maxie’s room and asked for an update. She sadly reported that the doctors still didn’t know anything about the mysterious enzyme in Maxie’s blood, and he assured her they would figure it out. Felicia looked at her comatose daughter and said she’d been told that speaking to her could help Maxie find her way back to them. When Cody suggested it could also be beneficial to Felicia, she gave him a grateful hug. Alone with Maxie, Felicia tearfully recalled how she never left her daughter’s side when she was ill as a child and wasn’t going anywhere now. She reminded Maxie how much her family needed her and begged her to come back to them.

Stable Force

Brook Lynn popped into the stables to find Tracy working with the horses. She opened up about feeling guilty about leaving Maxie and her family at the hospital to avoid the animosity between her and Lulu making a bad situation worse. Tracy advised that Brook Lynn and Lulu didn’t have to be friends, but they shouldn’t let their bad blood prevent them from being there for Maxie and her family. “I hate it when you’re right,” Brook Lynn sighed. Smiling in return, Tracy teased, “I love it!”

When Cody arrived, Tracy informed him she’d already finished all the chores and enjoyed doing it. Tracy offered her sympathies for Maxie, and Cody confided that the family wasn’t holding up great. He lamented all the time that he wasted not being with his family, and Tracy advised him not to focus on regrets, urging him to instead learn from this experience. “No more lies,” Cody declared. “No more scams.” Tracy said that was a great place to start.

Later, Ava stopped by the stables and her eyes greedily took in a sweaty, shirtless Cody baling hay. She said she was hoping to take him up on his raincheck and spend some time together, but Cody’s expression turned serious as he let her know he’s not the good guy that she thinks he is.

Making Peace

At Maxie’s house, Obrecht tried to console Lulu, who was distraught at the thought of Maxie winding up in a coma. She lamented Maxie losing all that time with her family as she had. Lulu opened up about how, after emerging from her own coma, she didn’t know how much time had passed until she saw Rocco all grown up, and it hit her like a ton of bricks. Obrecht was sympathetic, and Lulu hoped she could understand why she was so protective of her son. Liesl assured her she never meant any harm and acknowledged that it must have been hard missing out on the start of Rocco’s life. Lulu admitted that it was, and still is, placing the blame squarely on Britt’s shoulders. Lulu then offered to watch the kids so that Obrecht could go visit Maxie.

Brook Lynn later arrived after receiving Lulu’s text, and both women tried to speak at the same time before agreeing that Lulu would go first. She reminded Brook Lynn of the time Maxie had tricked them both into coming over here in the hopes of making a truce. “I wasn’t ready then,” she admitted, her words choked with emotion. “But I am today… if you are.” Lulu assumed that Brook Lynn had left the hospital because of her, and argued that they all needed to be there for Maxie and her family. Brook Lynn agreed that they didn’t have to be friends, but they had to support the Scorpios.

Meanwhile, Obrecht stopped by Maxie’s room with a vase of flowers. She moved to leave, but Felicia stopped her, reminding Liesl that she was family and was always welcome.

A Shocking Sight

When Willow saw Drew in the hospital corridor, she tried to beat a hasty retreat, but he stopped her by revealing that Michael had assaulted him because he’d told Wiley that she misses him. He insisted that he was never going to stop trying to help her, even if he had to do it from a distance. Then, Drew planted the seed in Willow’s head that Michael and Sonny had once again manipulated the legal system to get the assault charges dropped, and voiced his worry that they would make sure she never sees Wiley and Amelia again.

Nina approached Liz at the nurses station to ask where she could find Willow, and the head nurse directed her to the break room. There, Willow and Drew were continuing their discussion as she admitted that while she might need his help, she wasn’t sure if she could trust him. Drew insisted that he’d always wanted to tell her the truth about his affair with her mother, but Nina forced him not to. Willow insisted all she cared about was getting her kids back, and Drew promised to fix this for her if she let him. She still looked wary as Drew took her into his arms… just in time for Nina to arrive outside the door to witness the embrace!
