Meet General Hospital’s Hudson, Troy Lennon Appel — Is He Josslyn’s New Love Interest?
General Hospital introduced another new character, the mysterious Hudson, on the Thursday, July 30 episode, marking the daytime debut of actor Troy Lennon Appel.
Who is Hudson on General Hospital?
The actor originally tried out for GH when they were casting the role of Detective Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett) — and Appel told TV Insider that he was quite shocked when the show’s producers subsequently decided to create a brand-new character for him. “It was never something I ever thought would even remotely happen in my life,” he said.
The role of Hudson was not only created with Appel in mind, but came together after he did a chemistry read with Eden McCoy (Josslyn). Since starting work last month, “I’ve worked a lot with Eden,” he confirmed.
Whether the show was testing Appel’s chemistry with McCoy for them to play lovers or adversaries remains to be seen, but the actor described Hudson as “a shady businessman, and you’re not clear as to his motives. He goes one way, but then leans the other, and so he kind of keeps you on your toes.”
In his debut episode, Ethan Lovett’s (Christian Howard) reaction to the sight of Hudson at the Metro Court suggests that Hudson may also be connected to the ongoing mystery of baby Phoebe’s (Lucia and Luna Creighton) paternity. In his chat with TV Insider, Appel also named Amanda Setton (Brook Lynn) and Josh Swickard (Chase) — whose characters are poised to adopt the little bundle of joy — as two of his early scene partners.
A theater-trained actor, Appel claimed that Hudson is “way cooler than I am,” and copped to feeling some impostor syndrome once he was in front of the cameras with GH’s veteran cast of actors. He praised his new colleagues — from the actors to the studio’s security guards — for helping him feel at ease.
When he’s not busy playing Hudson, Appel continues to train clients as a personal trainer. Away from work, he’s happily married to wife Bernadette, who works in medical device sales. The duo got engaged in August 2024 and tied the knot last October. “I would not have booked General Hospital without her,” Appel declared. “She has been the biggest support system in helping me with all my auditions and prepping me for all my scenes, so I really couldn’t do this without her.”
