General Hospital Recap: Cassius Flees With James, Ava and Ethan Taken Hostage
There was a whole lot of action on the Tuesday, June 30, episode of General Hospital! Cassius (Ryan Paevey) tried to flee town with James (Gary James Fuller); Sidwell (Carlo Rota) held Ava (Maura West), Ethan (Nathan Dean) and Justine (Nazneen Contractor) at gunpoint; Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) left Jack (Chris McKenna) for dead; Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) appointed themselves Carly’s (Laura Wright) backup; Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) made an escape attempt; and Tracy (Jane Elliot) clashed with Sonny (Maurice Benard) over Gio (Giovanni Mazza). Here’s everything that happened.
Escape Artist
After Sidwell exposed Cassius’s true identity to Joe and Ezra, Cassius threatened to shoot Ezra if Joe didn’t drop his weapon, then pistol-whipped him when he complied. With Joe knocked unconscious, Sidwell appealed to Cassius to help him escape, but Cassius declared he was done being a pawn and made it clear that they were no longer on the same side. Still, he allowed Sidwell to escape.

With the walls closing in on him, Cassius told Ezra he was going to leave town. He asked the councilman to stay behind and help Joe when he came to. Outside the house, Cassius took one more look at a photo of James on his phone before taking out the memory card and breaking it into pieces.
Freaked out that Sidwell or Cassius might come back and kill them both, Ezra promised to call Joe an ambulance and was about to flee when Joe cried out, begging him to wait. Having a change of heart, Ezra called the paramedics and waited with Joe until the ambulance arrived.
Hired Gun
As Nina caught up with Ava at the Metro Court pool, she was pleased to see her friend had taken her warnings about Sidwell seriously and was accompanied by Ethan as a bodyguard. A salty Ava huffed that Sonny had assigned Ethan as her personal security detail and that Sidwell wanted Sonny, not her.
Later, Ethan escorted Ava back to the Jerome Gallery, where the two clashed over his hovering. Justine showed up to question Ava about her relationship with Sidwell. Insisting that their relationship had been only professional, Ava provided Justine with proof of all of her business transactions with Jenz. Then, Sidwell entered the gallery — with a pistol — and held Ava, Justine, and Ethan at gunpoint!

Batting A Thousand
Cody took James to the batting cages, where Nathan was supposed to meet them. When “Nathan” showed up, he told an excited James that he had big plans for them. Meanwhile, Cody’s phone finally dried out and booted back up and he stepped aside to check his messages.
Just as Cody listened to Felicia’s voicemail asking him to keep James away from Nathan, he turned around and saw Nathan and James leaving!

Every Breath You Take
Tying up another loose end, Cullum attempted to murder Jack at Turning Woods by restraining him to the bed, then poisoning him with gas. Taunting Jack, Cullum said he’d take the black box from the WSB office with him when he left town, confident that whatever was inside would be a good insurance policy if things didn’t go his way. He then left Jack to die. When Nina stopped by, she was horrified to discover a lifeless Brennan!

Back-Up Plan
Danny called Carly down to the boathouse, where he and a frantic Charlotte filled her in on Charlotte’s near kidnapping. Carly theorized that Cullum must not know Valentin had turned himself in, but must be getting desperate if he went after Charlotte.
Scared for Josslyn’s safety, Carly decided to go to Wyndemere to get her daughter. Charlotte and Danny wanted to go with her, but Carly refused to let them endanger themselves. Charlotte then gave Carly detailed instructions on how to sneak in without being detected by the WSB agents guarding the castle.

Before leaving, Carly asked Danny to call Sonny if he didn’t hear from her by 8 p.m. Knowing that neither of their fathers would want Carly to go to Spoon Island without backup, Danny and Charlotte decided to follow her anyway.
Open Door Policy
After hours in the lab, Obrecht was returned to the captive room and told Josslyn that the prototype was essentially completed; it just needed to be initiated. Josslyn was horrified that Obrecht hadn’t sabotaged the project as they’d discussed, and the women argued over whether Cassius was truly going to rescue them or not.
When Joss shouted that Cassius was not Nathan, Obrecht confided that she mourned Nathan all over again when Cassius told her the truth about himself. Although Liesl insisted that Cassius was a good man, no matter what his part was in Cullum’s scheme, Josslyn argued that he’d show his true colors and hang them out to dry.
After a silent standoff, Josslyn and Liesl realized that it didn’t matter which one of them was right about Cassius: Their best chance of survival was to work together to break out of the captive room.

Eviction Notice
With Sidwell on the loose and targeting Sonny, Tracy was worried for Gio’s safety. She went to Pozullo’s and demanded that Sonny kick Gio out so he could move back to the Quartermaine mansion. Sonny texted Gio to join them so Tracy could go over her concerns with him herself.
After Tracy made her pitch to her great-grandson, Sonny chimed in that he felt Tracy’s worries were legitimate, but the decision was ultimately Gio’s. When Gio refused to abandon his grandfather, a frustrated Tracy reminded Sonny that, despite heightened security, Michael nearly died in a firebombing attack meant for him. “How are you gonna feel if history repeats itself?” she huffed before storming out. Gio apologized for Tracy’s behavior, but Sonny said that Tracy was right.
