General Hospital Recap: Carly Gets Evidence Against Valentin, Britt is Rehired — With a Catch
On General Hospital on Tuesday, July 21, things got complicated. Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) turned to Laura (Genie Francis) for help, Brick (Stephen A. Smith) gave Carly (Laura Wright) a potential weapon, Anna (Finola Hughes) returned to work at the PCPD, Lulu (Alexa Havins) clashed with Charlotte (Bluesy Burke), who was developing a crush on Gio (Giovanni Mazza), Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) got a second chance — with a catch — and more. Here’s how it all shook out.
Team Players
Britt arrived at the hospital and was dismayed to learn from Lucas that Tristan is G.H.’s newest cardiac surgeon. She explained she was on edge because she was meeting with Stella and Liz to get her job back. Lucas hoped she would succeed, but urged her to try to be humble. When Tristan saw Britt, he told her that her room at Bobbie’s was available again because he was moving to the Metro Court, and they snarked at each other until Lucas pulled Tristan away for a consult.
Stella and Liz gave Britt the opportunity to explain herself to regain her job, and she sincerely told them how much she loves being a doctor. Ultimately, they agreed to hire Britt back but with a six-month probationary period. Britt was dismayed to learn that she would have additional responsibilities at work while on probation.
To help Tristan get to know more of the staff, Lucas invited him to join the hospital softball team. Liz thought that was a great idea and then introduced Britt as the new equipment manager.
Three’s a Crowd
Lulu interrupted Charlotte’s flirting with Gio at the Metro Court Pool so they could discuss the tension between them, and was stunned when Charlotte asked her to let her live at Carly’s. Lulu quickly squashed that idea, and Charlotte complained that all she cared about was keeping her away from her dad.
Shaken, Lulu excused herself to prepare for an interview. Gio comforted Charlotte, but just as they were bonding over music, Emma arrived to steal him away. Charlotte declined Gio’s invitation to join them and frowned watching Emma and Gio kissing from across the pool.
Parental Guidance Suggested
Valentin paid a visit to Laura to ask for her help dealing with Lulu coming between him and Charlotte. He warned that Lulu’s behavior would only widen the rift between her and Charlotte and hoped Laura might be able to get through to her daughter before it got too much worse.
Laura agreed that Charlotte deserved to have both of her parents in her life but wanted Valentin to admit how he’d undermined Lulu’s relationship with her daughter by constantly painting her as the villain. Laura informed Valentin that if he stood up for Lulu with Charlotte, she would stand up for him with Lulu.
Back to Work
Anna was shadowing Dante for a couple of weeks before resuming her job as commissioner. After meeting Joe, she asked him for recent case files to get up to speed, specifically naming the shootout on Spoon Island. Reminded of his own return to work after a “difficult absence,” Dante assured Anna he would be there for her as she was for him back then. Just as it seemed Anna was about to open up, Lulu arrived to interview her for the paper.
Anna was confused when Lulu started asking her about Robin, and Lulu admitted she was struggling with Charlotte. Anna urged her to keep showing up for her daughter, and the bad times would one day be in the past. Lulu thanked her, then postponed their interview and left.
Laura arrived and welcomed Anna back, but Joe interrupted to report that all the records and evidence of Cullum’s shooting had disappeared. Anna assumed someone took it, and Laura tried to cover her worry, knowing Rocco had pulled the trigger.
Living Arrangements
Lulu arrived at the Quartermaines to pick up Rocco, and Dante explained that Rocco wanted to stay there because there was tension with Charlotte. Lulu insisted Rocco come home so they could hash it out, but Dante suggested giving the teens time to cool off. Lulu worried Rocco felt like he couldn’t come home because Charlotte was there and bristled when Dante suggested she could let Charlotte live with her dad.
Insurance Policy
When Brick went to see Carly, she deduced that he was there on Sonny’s orders to warn her away from Valentin. Brick admitted he’d already tried to convince Valentin to leave town. Carly noted that the WSB had let Valentin go, but Brick worried that someone else could still come after Valentin if some of his other crimes came to light.
Carly insisted that Valentin was a changed man. Nonetheless, Brick handed Carly a flash drive containing evidence against him in case she ever needed to get Valentin out of her life.
Later, Valentin returned and noticed the flowers Brick had brought to Carly. She explained that Brick offered to fill her in on all his crimes, but she turned him down. Valentin was pleased, but Carly didn’t mention that she was now in possession of the flash drive…
Planting the Seed
In the apartment above Charlie’s, Sonny inquired if there were any pending charges against Valentin, fearing for Donna’s safety. Justine explained that the WSB had confiscated all of Valentin’s criminal records so he was a free man.
When Sonny complained that Carly was involved with a guy who could destroy her life, Justine noted she was in the same position herself. Sonny promised he would never compromise her and they began kissing. The pair were interrupted by a call from Brick, who told Sonny he had put something in motion to ensure Valentin would be “out of Carly’s life… and she’ll be the one who gets rid of him.”
