General Hospital Recap: Carly and Nina Face Off Over Jack’s Stroke, Dante Vows to Protect Rocco
On General Hospital on Thursday, May 14, Carly (Laura Wright) had some pointed questions for Nina (Cynthia Watros), Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and Lucas (Van Hansis) drowned their sorrows, Sonny (Maurice Benard) was impressed when Justine (Nazneen Contractor) squashed Cullum’s (Andrew Hawkes) demand, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) had a heart-to-heart with Rocco (Finn Carr), Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) moved ahead with her plans for Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Gio (Giovanni Mazza), and Laura (Genie Francis) and Ezra (Daniel Cosgrove) brought Tracy (Jane Elliot) in on their scheme. Root Cause
In Laura’s office, Tracy balked when the mayor and Ezra asked her to back off from the injunction to block Sidwell’s helipad flight path. Laura explained that she and Ezra were only appearing to support Sidwell but were actually working on getting him out of Port Charles. She asked Tracy to trust her, and after noting that it was what Luke would want, Tracy reluctantly agreed to put her faith in Laura’s plan… for now. After Tracy left, Laura sighed to Ezra that they couldn’t placate Sidwell forever — so they needed to figure out what he really cared about and then push him into making a mistake.
Deny, Deny, Deny
At G.H., Carly questioned Nina about Jack’s medical incident, dubious that it was coincidental that both Jack and Drew had strokes in Willow’s house. Carly theorized that something in the home might be toxic and suggested it be investigated, adding that she was going to push for both men’s blood to be tested. A twitchy Nina changed the subject, revealing something she didn’t know Carly was already well aware of: Valentin was back in town.
Carly feigned shock at the info and was privately relieved that Nina didn’t intend to alert the authorities to the fugitive’s whereabouts. Nina told her that Jack and Valentin had gotten into a heated argument, which perhaps had caused Brennan’s stroke. Carly warned Nina that if Jack ended up locked-in just like Drew, the PCPD and the press would certainly look into the link between Jack, Drew and Willow, insinuating that Willow might be in cahoots with Val. Nina squirmed at the thought of a scandal erupting around her daughter and turned the tables by claiming to have suddenly remembered what Valentin and Jack had been arguing about: Josslyn’s whereabouts. She lightly threatened to relay this detail to Cullum, who had already been by the hospital asking questions. Carly backed down, advising that they both steer clear of the ruthless Cullum.
Talent Show
Brook Lynn was thrilled that Trina had decided to do the showcase and wanted Gio to accompany her on guitar. Gio worried that being Brook Lynn’s son would reflect negatively on Trina and considered backing out, and Trina had concerns that she wasn’t talented enough for a music career. In the end, Brook Lynn convinced them both to move forward with the showcase.
Pour Decisions
Over shots in Britt’s room, she and Lucas discussed ways to tell Sidwell that Cullum was likely Marco’s killer. Realizing that spilling to Jenz would ultimately put Lucas in danger, Britt proposed that she walk away from the project and disappear. Lucas rejected the idea, refusing to let Marco’s sacrifice (stealing Britt’s medication) be for nothing, and encouraged Britt to stay and fight. Acknowledging that Rocco needed her as well, Britt agreed to stick around. After joking about how the mess they’re in had bonded them, Lucas and Britt decided they needed to go about their normal business, so nobody became suspicious of the sudden thaw in their relationship.
Dinner and a Show
Sonny ran into Justine at the Metro Court Gardens and thanked her for the advice she’d given him about Ric. Knowing how important it is to have someone you could trust, Justine said she hadn’t wanted Sonny to lose his new relationship with his brother over a misunderstanding. Cullum then arrived for his meeting with Justine and traded barbs with Sonny before informing the Turner that he wanted the evidence the PCPD had gathered from his shooting.
A frosty Justine reminded Culum that her office wasn’t in charge of the evidence, so he’d need a court order to take possession. When Cullum accused her of impeding a WSB investigation, she reamed him out for the way the agency handled Jason’s arrest and even proposed taking on the WSB in a public fight over their secretive tactics. Backing down, Cullum said he’d consult with the WSB attorneys and get back to her before exiting. Sonny was impressed with the way Justine put Cullum in his place and made plans to meet up with her later in their secret spot.
Game Plan
Dante reached out to Rocco for an overdue conversation, telling his son he knew he shot Cullum. He asked Rocco to share the story of what happened that night in his own words, and assured a worried Rocco that he wasn’t going to arrest him, citing all the extenuating circumstances surrounding the crime. Rocco wondered if Britt would back him up if he came forward, but Dante pointed out that nobody would believe her if she suddenly changed her account of the shooting. He sternly advised Rocco that nobody else could know about his involvement. Rocco fretted that, if the truth ever came out, his dad would be in trouble for covering up the crime. Dante insisted that he would handle it and praised Rocco for saving Jason and Britt’s lives. As father and son embraced, Dante received a call from Justine, alerting him that Cullum was looking for the evidence from his shooting.
