General Hospital Officially Writes Out Maxie
After months off screen, General Hospital has officially written out Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms). The Thursday, July 23 episode revealed that Maxie, Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and their family are moving to Australia, marking the long-running character’s departure from Port Charles.
Why General Hospital Wrote Out Maxie Jones
The development comes after a complicated year for Storms and her character. The actress returned to GH on February 12 after a six-month hiatus, with Maxie emerging from a lengthy coma to the news that her late husband, Nathan (Ryan Paevey), had seemingly returned from the dead.
A major Maxie storyline seemed poised to unfold, given that “Nathan” was actually an impostor (the real Nathan’s twin, Cassius Faison) and had fallen for Maxie’s best friend, Lulu (Alexa Havins). But Storms was featured in only a handful of episodes before Maxie disappeared from the canvas again.
In June, GH acknowledged her absence by making on-screen references to Maxie taking an extended trip to the Grand Canyon with Spinelli, their daughter Georgie (Lily Fisher) and her daughter Bailey (Miley and Riley Plonski).
Fans have known since July 2025 that Storms had made the decision to relocate to Tennessee. That, along with a desire to focus on her health and helping her daughter get settled in a new state, had prompted her to take a break from the show that commenced on screen in August 2025.
Following her brief comeback earlier this year, Storms addressed her future with the soap in a social media message she posted in June, saying, “As for what is in my future, where GH is concerned…. Given what’s been going on [in my life], I can’t say I will feel comfortable heading back to Los Angeles and returning to work.”
How General Hospital Explained Maxie’s Exit
Rather than keep Maxie off-camera on an infinite family vacation, GH gave a more permanent explanation for her absence on the July 23 show, when Cody (Josh Kelly) revealed that Spinelli had accepted “an amazing job offer” in Australia and that Maxie, Spinelli, Georgie, Bailey and Maxie’s son, James (Gary James Fuller, temporarily Easton Winn), were heading Down Under the following night, as they were “itching to get out of Port Charles.”
Further suggesting that Maxie will be gone for the long haul? She divested from her beloved place of business, Deception Cosmetics, by selling her shares to Michael (Rory Gibson).
Storms first joined General Hospital as Maxie in 2005, following a successful Days of Our Lives run as Belle Brady and a starring role in Disney’s hit Zenon trilogy.
Maxie, the daughter of supercouple Frisco (Jack Wagner) and Felicia (Kristina Wagner), was born on the show in 1990. She has been a central figure on the show since her early childhood, when she memorably received a donor heart from her cousin B.J. Jones, who had been rendered brain-dead in a school bus crash.
GH has made no official comment about Storms’ status with the show — and while Maxie’s move to Australia makes her return to Port Charles in the near future unlikely, the show has certainly left the door open for a return down the line.
