Daytime Vets Greg Rikaart and Rebecca Budig Hosting Soapy New Podcast for CBS
CBS is celebrating soaps with the launch of a brand-new podcast called Soapy, hosted by daytime stars — and real-life friends/former next-door neighbors — Rebecca Budig (Taylor, Bold and Beautiful) and Greg Rikaart (Leo, Days of Our Lives; Kevin, Young and Restless). According to a network press release, “Whether a lifelong fan or discovering the genre for the first time, Soapy offers a fresh, fun behind-the-scenes look at the stories – and storytellers – that define daytime drama.”
A Little Moonlighting
In addition to their current roles on B&B and DAYS, Budig has also played Michelle Bauer on Guiding Light (1995-98), Greenlee Smythe on All My Children (1999-2005; 2008-11), and Hayden Barnes (2015-17; 2019) on General Hospital, while Daytime Emmy winner Rikaart has been a fixture in the daytime world since making his Genoa City debut as Kevin back in 2003.
Set to premiere on Tuesday, July 8, Soapy will release new episodes every week through Tuesday, Sept. 30, in both audio and video formats. Soap fans can listen to it on Audacy or wherever you find your favorite audio podcasts, or watch it like a TV show right on the official CBS YouTube Channel.
“We are so excited for you to join us on our podcast, Soapy,” Budig declared in a promotional trailer for the podcast. “We’ve spent a lot of our lives on soaps, and whether you are into daytime or nighttime, we’re going to talk all things soapy.”
The podcast promises in-depth conversations with soap stars past and present, writers, producers, and more. The first four episodes will feature Eric Braeden (Victor, Y&R), Deidre Hall (Marlena, DAYS), Sheila Ducksworth (executive producer of Beyond the Gates), and Lauralee Bell (Christine, Y&R). Upcoming guests will include Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH), Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren, Y&R), Marc Cherry (creator and writer of Desperate Housewives), Scott Clifton (Liam, B&B), Eva LaRue (Natalia, GH), Karla Mosley (Dani, BTG), Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter, B&B), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki, Y&R), Heather Tom (Katie, B&B), and Tamara Tunie (Anita, BTG).
“We decided, since we know each other so well, that we should interview all the people that we know,” Budig said in the preview, “and people that we don’t know in this genre.” Rikaart interjected to add, “And celebrate our genre coming from a place of love and reverence and respect for the incredibly challenging and hard and fun work that we get to do on daytime soaps.”
