Beyond the Gates Comings & Goings: Gayle King Guest Stars as Herself Opposite Tamara Tunie
As the story of Anita Dupree’s (Tamara Tunie) breast cancer continues to unfold on Beyond the Gates, the embattled heroine will make the brave decision to go public with her diagnosis. On the Monday, February 23 episode of the soap, Anita will appear on CBS Mornings to sit down with special guest star Gayle King, the show’s longtime host, where she will reveal the news about her health.

King’s cameo on BTG marks her first foray into daytime drama, but the veteran television journalist has played herself on a variety of other scripted programs in the past, including 30 Rock, Being Mary Jane, Queen Sugar, The Game and Billions. She also played herself in the 2016 film The Boss and the 2019 flick Queen & Slim.
Since its debut on February 24, 2025, several celebrities have notched cameos on BTG, including Entertainment Tonight co‑host Nischelle Turner, Real Housewives of Potomac stars Karen Huger, Gizelle Bryant and Dr. Wendy Osefo, and musical artist Kenny Lattimore. In addition, the show has hosted visits from notable soap names Bryton James, who crossed over as his Young and Restless character, Devon Winters, and Thorsten Kaye, who crossed over as his Bold and Beautiful alter ego, Ridge Forrester. BTG is preparing for another major crossover event set to take place in June, when six Y&R characters pay a visit to Fairmont Crest.
There is a long history of TV journalists and talk show hosts popping up across the soap line-up. Examples include Julie Chen (as herself) encountering Hilary Curtis (Mishael Morgan) on Young and Restless, Katie Couric playing a doctor on General Hospital in scenes with Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher), Joy Behar and Elizabeth Hasselback of The View interviewing One Life to Live‘s Tate Harmon (Chris Beetem), and Meredith Vieira portraying Lucy Coe’s (Lynn Herring) colleague Bree Flanders on GH.
