Beloved Young and Restless Vet Lands Lead Role Opposite Oscar Winners Olivia Colman and Brie Larson

Rising star Alyvia Alyn Lind, who is beloved for her decade-long Young and Restless run as Faith Newman, the precocious daughter of Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case), will soon be back on television in a major role — and she’ll be starring opposite two previous Lead Actress Academy Award winners, Olivia Coleman and Brie Larson, in the new project.

Wolf Pack

Lind is set to play the part of Mia in a psychological thriller called Cry Wolf, which FX is producing as a limited series. Per Deadline, which broke the news of Lind’s casting, the plot follows a social worker, Kath, played by Colman, and a mother and daughter duo, played by Larson and Lind, respectively, who are “thrust into crisis” when the teenage Mia alleges abuse by her stepfather, played by Shawn Hatosy. It is written and executive-produced by Sarah Treem, who co-created and served as showrunner of the Golden Globe-winning drama The Affair.

The actress was only three years old when she joined Y&R as Faith back in 2011. Lind recalled to Soap Opera Digest in 2020 that on her first day on the job, “I was on set and I was supposed to pretend that I was sleeping. I was laying in Sharon’s [Case] arms and she’s the most comforting human being ever. When the scene was done, they were like, ‘Okay, cut. That’s a wrap on Aly,’ and that’s when they realized I really was fast asleep.”

Lind’s appearances in the role became more sporadic as her career outside of Genoa City heated up, but, she shared in that same interview, the show had a special place in her heart, which is why she reprised Faith whenever her schedule allowed. “I’ve always felt an emotional connection to everyone at Y&R,” she noted. “There was one point when I was going off for some movie and by the time I was finished with that, we weren’t positive I would come back to Y&R and it was seriously the hardest thing for me to take. I just couldn’t imagine leaving this family. I’m traveling a lot and doing all these different things but Y&R has always been the most stable thing I’ve had in my life. It’s been so amazing to have that. Everybody there is close to my heart.”

In 2021, she left the show when she was cast in a lead role on Chucky for Syfy, but it was not easy to say farewell. “I honestly can’t even talk about leaving Y&R,” she told Digest at the time. “I definitely can’t talk about saying good-bye to Josh [Morrow] or Sharon [Case] or Cammie [Camryn Grimes, Mariah] or Hunter [King, then-Summer] or Melody [Thomas Scott, Nikki] or Eric [Braeden, Victor] or the crew or anybody!” She described her final day on set as “so emotional,” explaining, “I was in denial over it for so long and then in the last five minutes it just kind of hit me … and then the floodgates. I’ve been on the show since I was 3. That studio holds a lot of memories for me — my whole life! As sappy as it sounds, my favorite part of Faith has been having this TV family in my life who I’ve always been able to come back to.

“Y&R gave me the nicest, most sincere send-off,” she continued. “They are so supportive of their actors when they book other projects, but walking away from my lifelong family was next to impossible. I had a headache for three days from crying so much. But I will never close that door completely in my mind. I’ll come back to Y&R whenever I’m invited! I want to keep in touch with everyone, visit, come back as a long-lost cousin — whatever it takes!”

Following Lind’s departure, Y&R recast the role of Faith with Reylynn Caster.

Lind was on the Chucky set when she learned she had landed her third Daytime Emmy nomination as Outstanding Younger Actress for her Y&R work. She told Digest that if she won, “I would definitely want to thank the fans who have kept Y&R alive for so many years. Everywhere I go, anywhere I travel, there is always a loyal fan recognizing Faith and letting me know how much the show has meant to them. It’s an understatement to say that I feel so fortunate to be a part of this iconic family.”  (That year, the trophy went to Victoria Konefal as Ciara on Days of Our Lives.)

Chucky was canceled last year after three seasons, but in September, another one of Lind’s recent projects, the psychological thriller series Wayward, in which she starred opposite Toni Collette, premiered on Netflix.
