Michael E. Knight returned to ALL MY CHILDREN as Tad; Kate Collins (Natalie/Janet), Genie Francis (Ceara, now GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Laura), Jean LeClerc (Jeremy) and James Patrick Stuart (Will, now GH’s Valentin) left; and John Callahan debuted as Edmund.... The show won Outstanding Drama at the Daytime Emmys and underwent a head-writing change, with Megan McTavish succeeding Agnes Nixon (who became executive head writer).... Livia and Tom had Pine Valley’s first interracial nups, and Natalie and Trevor said, “I do”.... Evil Will wed Hayley, then was 
fatally struck with a crowbar by Janet, who also gave birth to her daughter with Trevor, Amanda.... Opal and Palmer became parents to Petey.... Edmund and Dimitri were revealed to be half brothers and they found love with Brooke and Erica, respectively.... Tad was back from the dead — with amnesia, and believed himself to be Ted Orsini.... Helga fell to her death in Hungary after trapping Erica in a crypt.... David Canary (Adam/Stuart) received the Soap Opera Digest Award for Lead Actor. Charles Keating visited ANOTHER WORLD as Carl, and Kale Browne (Michael) and John Aprea (Lucas) left.... Jake and Paulina split, and Ryan broke his engagement to Vicky when she slept with his brother, Grant.... Carl was revealed as Ryan’s bio dad; Lucas and Felicia reunited with their grown daughter, Lorna, but Felicia was widowed when Sally shot Lucas dead.... Peggy Sloane took over as head writer, replacing Donna Swajeski. At the Digest Awards, Anne Heche (ex-Vicky/Marley) took home the Lead Actress prize, and Ricky Paull Goldin (Dean) went home with the Younger Lead Actor trophy.

AS THE WORLD TURNS recast Emily with Kelley Menighan; Sharon Case (now Sharon, Y&R) made her debut as Debbie; Ellen Dolan (Margo) and Renee Props (Ellie) left; Yvonne Perry began her Rosanna run; and Terry Lester and Mary Kay Adams came aboard as Royce and Neal.... Jessica tied the knot with Duncan; other newlyweds included Susan
and Larry, and Andy and Courtney.... Margo was raped by HIV-positive Nevins.... Kirk and Ellie’s marriage crumbled after her abortion.... Holden was amnesiac after a mugging.... Lisa reunited with her adult son, Scott.

Kimberlin Brown brought her YOUNG AND RESTLESS alter ego, Sheila, over to BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL (and Tracey E. Bregman’s Lauren popped in), while original cast members Lauren Koslow (Margo, now DAYS OF OUR LIVES’s Kate) and Daniel McVicar (Clarke) wrapped their runs.... Ridge and Taylor said, “I do”.... Brooke gave birth to Bridget, but didn’t know whether Ridge or Eric was the daddy.... Sheila became the in-house nurse at Forrester Creations.... Sally and Clarke split, while Thorne hooked up with Karen.

replaced by Tom Langan, and on the head-writing front, Richard J. Allen and Beth Milstein took over from Gene Palumbo, then were replaced by Sheri Anderson; James E. Reilly was appointed her co-head writer at year’s end.... The show aired a prime-time installment, ONE STORMY NIGHT.... John and Isabella wed and became parents to little Brady on the same day, but she soon succumbed to pancreatic cancer.... Jack and Jennifer welcomed daughter Abigail.... Kimberly battled a multiple personality disorder.

In the midst of a ratings crisis, GH axed Gloria Monty as EP and tapped Wendy Riche as show runner. Maralyn Thoma succeeded Monty’s sister, Norma, as head writer, then worked as co-head writer with Bill Levinson.... Finola Hughes (Anna) and Tristan Rogers (Robert, now Colin, Y&R) exited, Emma Samms (Holly) returned, and Lynn Herring (Lucy) quit, then came back after a stint on DAYS as Lisanne. The show made several significant hires, including Vanessa Marcil (Brenda), Cari Shayne (Karen), Antonio Sabato, Jr. (Jagger) and Jon Lindstrom (Kevin) as Ryan. Peter Hansen and Susan Brown (Lee and Gail) came back, and Gerald Anthony was introduced as his ONE LIFE TO LIVE alter, Marco…. Robert, Anna and Faison were presumed dead in a boat explosion, and Mac became Robin’s guardian…. Scotty and Dominique drunkenly wed in Las Vegas, while Jenny married Ned — but pined for Paul, who welcomed son Dillon with Tracy…. Holly returned from the dead and took up with Luke’s look-alike cousin, Bill…. Ryan stalked Felicia…. Lucas’s birth mother, Cheryl, died in a car accident…. Lynn Herring (Lucy, Villainess) and Jane Elliot (Tracy, Supporting Actress) netted Digest awards. Beverlee McKinsey caught GUIDING LIGHT higher-ups by surprise when she took advantage of a clause in her contract to exit the show as Alexandra, and fans were up in arms over the firing of Ellen Parker (Maureen). Sherry Stringfield left as Blake, who was recast with Elizabeth Keifer; Kimberley Simms (Mindy) also walked, while Fiona Hutchison (Jenna) and Hilary Edson (Eve) joined the Springfield ranks…. GL’s 40^th anniversary on CBS was toasted with a prime-time special…. Harley and Mallet fell in love; so did Blake and Ross, after she seduced him for revenge against Holly. He gave up his Senate seat to be with her…. Alan-Michael conned Eleni into marriage, but she got pregnant by Frank after learning of A-M’s machinations…. Nadine stashed Bridget (who was preggers by Hart) in her attic, then faked a pregnancy with the intent of passing off Bridget’s newborn as hers and Billy’s…. Mindy left Nick at the altar…. Alex and nick got confirmation that they were mother and son…. Roger shot and killed Daniel, Holly’s murderous hubby-to-be…. Ed cheated on Maureen with Lillian, who was battling breast cancer…. When James E. Reilly left to join DAYS, Stephen Demorest, Nancy Curlee and Lorraine Broderick became the show’s trio of head writers…. Maeve Kinkead (Vanessa) won the Daytime Emmy for supporting actress, and Michael Zaslow (Roger) won the Digest award for Outstanding Villain.

Susan Haskell (Marty), Roger Howarth (Todd), Ryan Phillippe (Billy), Pamela Payton-Wright (Addie), Nathan Purdee (Hank) and Hillary B. Smith (Nora) made their first OLTL appearances. Jessica Tuck (Megan) and Anthony Call (Herb) exited.... Viki and Jake mourned when Megan passed away from lupus; Bo’s wife, Sarah, died in a car crash.... Kevin and Lee Ann had a baby boy, who they called Duke.... Max and Luna fell in love, and Viki, still married to Clint, was drawn to Sloan.... Blair bedded Max on top of her wedding dress, but still said, “I do” to Asa.... Marty spread vicious rumors about Andrew’s relationship to Billy, who came out as gay, a soap first for a teen. Andrew also brought the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt to town (its first appear- ance on daytime).... Alex married Carlo, who was then murdered by his niece, Stephanie; Alex trained Carlo’s twin, Mortimer, to pose as the deceased.... Josh Griffith became Michael Malone’s co-head writer.... Erika Slezak (Viki) won the Lead Actress Daytime Emmy, and Thom Christopher won for Supporting Actor for his work as Carlo.

A Martinez (now Eduardo, DAYS) quit SANTA BARBARA as Cruz joined L.A. LAW. Kim Zimmer (Jodie), Sydney Penny (B.J.), Stephen Nichols (Skyler, now Steve, DAYS) and Eric Close (Sawyer) joined the cast…. Pamela K. Long was named head writer, replacing Bridget and Jerome Dobson, but NBC canceled the show late in the year (it went off the air in January 1993)…. Mason and Julia remarried, and Gina became Mrs. Lionel Lockridge…. Cruz learned that he was B.J.’s dad and left town after a fling with Kelly.

Y&R married off Katherine and Rex, Scott and Lauren, and Victoria and Ryan.... Nikki’s reunion with Victor was derailed by her pregnancy by Jack; Vic and Jill hit the sheets for a spell.... Lauren was reunited with her son, Scotty, after Sheila copped to the baby switch. Sheila was then presumed dead (but popped up alive on B&B).... Christine filed sexual harassment charges against Michael.... Drucilla posed nude, causing problems for her and Neil.... Brad and Traci had a baby girl, Colleen, while Olivia and Nathan welcomed a son, Nate.... Peter Bergman (Jack) won the Daytime Emmy for Lead Actor, while the Younger Actor and Actress Emmys went to Kristoff St. John (Neil) and Tricia Cast (Nina), and the show won for Writing. Cast also received the Digest Award for Younger Lead Actress, and Doug Davidson (Paul) won for Supporting Actor.
