In 2005, Colin Egglesfield debuted on All My Children as Joshua Madden, the secret son of Erica Kane and Jeff Martin, who had been raised by psycho ob/gyn Joshua Madden. The role was originally played by Scott Kinworthy. The controversial character — controversial because his existence rewrote the landmark storyline in which Erica had an abortion back in 1972 — met his demise in 2009.

In 2011, Brody Lovett (Mark Lawson) proposed to Natalie Buchanan (Melissa Archer) on One Life to Live. What Natalie didn't know at the time is that Brody was not actually the father of "their" little boy, Liam — John McBain was. Brody, however, was well aware of this, and desperate to keep the truth from coming to light. Natalie was thrown by Brody popping the question and initially declined, but she then overheard John telling Roxy Balsom that he didn't love her, prompting her to have a change of heart and tell Brody that she would marry him.

In 2016, Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) agreed to postpone their wedding due to the upset expressed by her young son, RJ. Since returning to town to find his mother engaged to a man who had a son (Will) with Brooke's sister, Katie, Will had made no secret of his strong disapproval of the planned union between Brooke and Bill, and had beseeched both Brooke and Bill to rethink their plans to wed. After getting Bill on board with her idea to hold off on the nuptials, Brooke informed RJ of her decision. He was hopeful that this meant there was a chance Brooke would reconcile with his dad, Ridge, but Brooke made it clear that she did intend to marry Bill, just not right away.
