In 1983 on General Hospital, Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) and Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) entered into a green-card marriage. Robert had offered to marry Holly, who was pregnant with Luke Spencer's baby, given that Luke had been presumed dead in an avalanche. Holly ultimately miscarried, but she and Robert fell in love for real, making for a sticky situation when Luke resurfaced, very much alive. Reflecting on the success of the Robert/Holly pairing to Soap Opera Digest in 2023, Samms noted, "The story was fantastic, and working with Tristan obviously worked well for the audience and was very comfortable for me and him. They added a lot of humor and actually wrote a couple that was happily married and somehow made that interesting, which was unique on a soap. I think all those elements are why people loved it so much."

In 1989 on Days of Our Lives, future supercouple Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) met for the first time. Jennifer, who was in college at the time, had just begun an internship at The Spectator and sought out Diana Colville. She was surprised when instead, she encountered Jack. McCullough shared with Soap Opera Digest in 2013, "I was having sex on the show when I was a virgin in real life and had no idea, like, what was going on."

In 2006, Emme Rylan made her daytime debut as Guiding Light's Lizzie Spaulding. In 2017, she recalled to Soap Opera Digest, "I did my screen test with John Driscoll, who played Coop, and in the scene, Lizzie is apologizing and trying to get him to forgive her. At the end, I jumped up and threw my arms around him and hugged him with this big, goofy smile on my face, all excited and hyper and happy that he’s forgiven me. John was super-nice. I was feeling good about myself when we finished, and when I went to leave, the monitors on the first floor of the building were on, and I could see the other girls auditioning. Of course, I couldn’t not torture myself, so I watched! Every girl was so hot, so sexy and womanly, and this one leaned up against him at the end and it looked so romantic. I was like, ‘I never thought of that!’ It never crossed my mind to use sex appeal in the audition. I was like, ‘I have no right being on daytime!’ Because my audition was like, ‘Hi, I’m a bubbly goofball. I’m here to do a sitcom!’ I cried the whole way to the train because I thought I had totally blown it. When I got the call that I got the part, I was like, ‘What?!’ I couldn’t believe it.”
