Young and Restless: Noah’s Affair With Sienna Is ‘A Little Complicated,’ Says Lucas Adams (Exclusive)
When Lucas Adams first landed the role of Noah on Young and Restless, he knew that he would once again be working with his former Days of Our Lives co-star, Tamara Braun. Over on that soap, the actors played mother and son, Ava and Tripp, but as viewers learned at the end of the November 6 episode of Y&R, Sienna and Noah have quite a different relationship — they’ve been having an affair! Adams opened up to Soap Opera Digest about the storyline twist.
Role Reversal
“I did not find out until after I booked the role,” Adams tells Soap Opera Digest of the storyline twist. “Tamara had given me the call because she had found out, so she called me up and said, ‘Hey, so I think I have to stop calling you my son for the most part.’ So I was like, ‘Ah, okay.’ That’s a lot of fun. A little bit of a twist to the relationship, there!”
Upon learning that Noah and Sienna were lovers, Adams naturally saw the humor in working with Braun in a whole new way. “I think I laughed for a good second,” he recalls, “just because we’ve been so close for so long as the mother and son duo. So it was kind of really funny to hear, but it was also exciting just to get to work with Tamara again, too.”
The actor reveals that his wife, actress Shelby Wulfert, had a similar reaction when he informed her of the twist. “My wife loves Tamara, and so she thought this was hilarious and was just so excited, too,” Adams shares. “All she thought was, ‘Oh, man, the fans are gonna love that.’ And I was like, ‘I think so, too!’”

Changing Lanes
Having worked together for four years on DAYS, playing mother and son, the actors had to sit down and discuss how to approach these new characters and sell Sienna and Noah’s romance. “We really had to turn our brains on a little differently when we have to do the scenes together,” Adams shares. “And I think that was the main thing [we discussed]: ‘Okay, let’s just talk about the relationship in general and who these people are to one another, and just go into the characters themselves.’ ”
Creating this new kind of chemistry with his co-star added yet another layer to the challenge of joining the cast of Y&R and replacing Rory Gibson (now General Hospital’s Michael) in the role of Noah. “Just coming into the new show and then having to fill in these big shoes coming in as Noah Newman, and then also having someone that I’ve worked with prior in that manner, and then going into this way where you’re like, ‘Now I have to turn my feelings on a different way, it took me a second to get going, but once we got it, we were good to go.”
Having already established such a strong working relationship with Braun proved very helpful when crafting these new characters and their relationship for Y&R. “Tamara is such a pro,” he declares. “She’s so good at getting every little bit of detail out of the scene. Even discussing it back and forth with her, it’s always so helpful. She’s just a mastermind with all of that. So getting to guide these two characters in the way that they are, having her there has been amazing, because it’s made it all easier.”
On the Down Low
Noah’s relationship with Sienna is also complicated by the fact that she’s got a husband, Mitch, and things seem to have gone a lot further than initially expected. “I think it started off as a casual thing,” Adams muses, “and then it has become deeper than he intended it to be. Getting involved in an affair with a married man’s wife, and the man that you’re getting involved with is not the nicest of people. Not the best time. Makes it a little complicated.”
Obviously, Noah is hoping to keep the affair a secret — especially from Sienna’s spouse — but he doesn’t regret his actions. “I don’t think he’s ashamed of it at all,” Adams explains. “I think he feels kind of bad about the affair in general; I think that’s just him being who he is. But I don’t think he is trying to hide it from his family, necessarily.”
In fact, his feelings for Sienna have made him almost defensive, if anything. “I think he probably feels a little protective over it because I think people are very judgy over it very quickly,” the actor says. “It’s not really ashamed, it’s more like, almost emboldened. He’s like, ‘I’m an adult. We’re just in an adult relationship. What are you talking about?’ kind of thing.”
Of course, given that Sienna’s husband is really Matt Clark, who has been terrorizing Noah’s parents since before he was born, that affair coming out is going to be ground zero for some explosive drama. Enthuses Adams: “It’s definitely part of the page turner.”
