Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo: Woman With a Plan

Comments

Brenda is at last in the thick of the GENERAL HOSPITAL storyline that Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo envisioned when she first agreed to return to her signature role: Brenda with Sonny and Jason and Jax and Robin and…Soap Opera Weekly: Did you have a specific story or character goal in mind when you decided to return?

Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo: Originally, Bob [Guza Jr. , head writer] was talking about bringing me on with James Franco (Franco), and I said that I really wanted to work with the people I worked with, starting from when Brenda was first put on the canvas. I really wanted to honor the show, and I really wanted to honor the co-stars of mine who gave me the best acting experience I’ve ever had, and also, I think, gave me my chops.

Weekly: How do you figure?

Giovinazzo: They were all so much better actors that they brought my level of acting up. It’s always exciting for me to get to work with Maurice [Benard, Sonny] or Steve Burton (Jason) or Kimberly McCullough (Robin) or Ingo [Rademacher, Jax].

Weekly: Is there anyone new with whom you would like to work?

Giovinazzo: It’s still my dream to work with Tony Geary (Luke). I’m always saying, “What’s a girl got to do to get a storyline with Tony Geary?” I want to know, ’cause I’ll do it [laughs]! It’s still my dream to work with Tony.

Weekly: Who else?

Giovinazzo: Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) is, like, from another planet to me, as far as talent. He was a baby when I was on the show before, so it’s incredible to watch him grown-up. Another really positive factor in me deciding to come back was finding out that Jonathan was there. I have so much respect for him as an actor.
