The Young and the Restless Comings & Goings: Roger Howarth Returns as Matt Closes in on Nick!
Matt Clark has been MIA on The Young and the Restless since January, but his three-month absence from the screen is set to come to a conclusion next week as Roger Howarth returns to the role of the notorious villain, which he assumed back in October 2025.
Wicked For Good?
As Soap Opera Digest previously reported, Howarth officially reported back to duty at the Y&R studio in mid-February, which the actor himself teased by posting a photo of his parking spot at CBS Television City, where the show tapes, on his Instagram Stories.
When viewers last saw Matt, he was being dragged away by Victor’s (Eric Braeden) minions after the titan vowed to mete out his own brand of justice against Matt, who has been wreaking havoc on the Newman family on and off for decades. But in February, ominous and threatening text messages began rolling in to Noah (Lucas Adams) and Nick (Joshua Morrow), leading Nick and Sharon (Sharon Case) to deduce that Matt was no longer under lock and key and had gone into hiding. When Matt’s estranged wife, Sienna (Tamara Braun), revealed her belief that Matt had fled to Las Vegas, Nick and Sharon enlisted Adam (Mark Grossman), who had lived in Vegas while amnesiac, to help them locate the villain.
This past week, Adam linked up in Sin City with Riza (Tina Casciani), a past associate of his who he suspects had information regarding Matt’s whereabouts — and now, Y&R spoilers for next week reveal that by Thursday, April 2, Matt is poised to close in on Nick! It seems a likely bet that Y&R is building to a big showdown between Nick and Matt — and it feels even safer to guess that Joshua Morrow had a ball acting it out. The veteran star told Digest of Howarth, “I feel blessed that I get to see him again. He’s fascinating. I love what he’s done with Matt Clark.”
Morrow also declared, “I can say without question, Roger is one of the most talented people I’ve ever worked with. He’s an incredible artist,” and predicted, “He’ll go down in history and soap lore as one of the more unique and talented performers that this medium has ever had.”
