The Bold and the Beautiful: Carter Plays Dirty to Get Steffy to Agree to His Surrogacy Scheme
On The Bold and the Beautiful, Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) thought he’d come up with the perfect plan to keep his one-night stand with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and its resulting pregnancy a secret: Since his wife, Daphne, has premature menopause, Steffy could volunteer to be an egg donor and surrogate for the couple, conveniently explaining away how she’s carrying Carter’s baby. In the September 16 episode, Steffy flatly refused to go along with such a scheme — and Carter quickly went behind her back to try to get his way regardless!
Will Steffy Agree to Become Carter and Daphne’s Surrogate?
When Carter made his pitch to Steffy, she was shocked by the proposal and raised multiple objections. Though he tried to counter each one of her arguments, she put her foot down and insisted she wanted nothing to do with his wild plan. But instead of taking no for an answer, Carter immediately headed to Forrester to pitch Daphne on the idea of Steffy carrying a baby for them.
After Carter and Steffy first slept together, both parties were willing to keep their indiscretion a secret to save their respective marriages. But after Steffy found out she was pregnant, she decided she had no choice but to come clean with her husband, Finn (Tanner Novlan), especially since she believes there is no way the baby could be his. Carter, however, is still determined to keep Daphne from finding out about his regrettable one-night stand, and he has incentive to keep the truth from Finn, as well. Now, he’s dragging Daphne into his efforts to sway Steffy into keeping quiet, clearly hoping that his wife’s fervent desire to have a baby will work on Steffy where his own pleading failed.
And his plan just may work. Daphne was devastated when she first learned that she was unable to get pregnant and carry Carter’s baby, so much so that she nearly left Carter. But she soon became open to alternative methods for starting a family with Carter, including surrogacy. However, Daphne has expressed her desire to find a surrogate that they knew and could trust — and Steffy, her trusted friend and confidante, would seem to fit that bill nicely.
Steffy has seen firsthand how crushed Daphne was to learn of her infertility and has supported her as she explored other options. She was able to say no when Carter asked her to pretend to be their surrogate. But will she be able to say no to Daphne?
