Serena Baldwin on General Hospital: Everything You Need To Know About Scott and Lucy’s Daughter
Serena Baldwin’s return to General Hospital is right around the corner! Here’s everything you need to know about her history in Port Charles to prepare for her comeback.
Who Plays Serena on General Hospital?
After Serena was born on GH in 1993, the character later appeared on spinoff soap Port Charles from 1997-2003, played by child actress Carly Schroeder. As an adult, the actress reprised her role for two episodes of GH in 2017. Then, in June 2026, the soap announced plans to reintroduce Serena to the canvas and recast the role with Kelly Kruger, who previously played Mac on Young and Restless and Eva on Bold and Beautiful.
What Happened to Serena on General Hospital?
Serena’s biological parents are Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and Dominque Stanton (Shell Danielson), but it was Lucy (Lynn Herring) who carried Serena and gave birth to her, acting as their surrogate. Dominique was dying from an inoperable brain tumor at the time and fervently wished to give her husband a child before she passed away, so Lucy helped make that dream come true and was pregnant when Dom passed away.
On December 7, Scott helped Lucy deliver a healthy baby girl. He and the newborn were promptly kidnapped, but Scott managed to escape with his daughter. After he and Lucy settled on Serena as the baby’s name, Scott took Serena and left Port Charles.
In 1997, Scott returned to Port Charles solo, desperate to track down a kidnapped Serena. He suspected that Lucy was responsible for the child’s abduction, but it was eventually revealed that Dominique’s uncle, Rex Stanton (Wayne Northrop), had orchestrated the crime — he had forced Dominique’s sister, Danielle Ashley (Renee Allman), into helping him kidnap Serena to gain access to the family fortune. Danielle caved and told Scott the truth, and he was eventually reunited with his daughter.

From there, Rex took custody of Serena by making Scott look like an unfit father, so Lucy married Rex in order to keep an eye on the little girl. Ultimately, Rex was arrested for his crimes, and Serena was returned to Scott. When the attorney began growing close to Eve Lambert (Julie Pinson), Lucy got jealous. Lucy tampered with Eve’s car before Eve was scheduled to pick up Serena from dance class. Her hope was to strand Eve and make her look irresponsible, but Eve picked up Serena as planned and then ran out of gas. She left Serena in the vehicle to go summon help, and the little girl accidentally jostled the car, which rolled backward, crashed and caught on fire!
Eve managed to free Serena from the vehicle just before it exploded. Serena was rushed to the hospital with internal bleeding and injuries to both corneas. There, Scott lashed out at Eve and Lucy’s guilty conscience flared. Serena lingered in a coma after undergoing surgery but eventually regained consciousness. However, she was blind as a result of her injuries. She did eventually have an operation to restore her eyesight, but Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) called off his wedding to Lucy when Eve busted her as the true cause of the accident.

In time, Serena became a big sister when Scott and Lucy married and adopted a baby girl they named Christina. Scott and Lucy’s marriage was thrown into turmoil when Christina’s mother took back custody, but he still asked Lucy to legally adopt Serena. Although Christina was later returned to her new family, Scott and Lucy’s marriage never recovered. Lucy then married Kevin.
The Baldwin family was dealt a blow in 2003 when Serena’s big sister, Scott’s daughter Dr. Karen Wexler, was struck by a car and died.
Serena’s Life After Port Charles
PC went off the air in 2003, and in 2008 on GH, Scott ran afoul of mobster Anthony Zacchara (Bruce Weitz). Anthony warned him that if “your sweet little Serena gets caught in the crossfire, you’ll have only yourself to blame.” Scott scoffed that Serena was safely out of Anthony’s reach, but his face fell when Anthony ticked off the exact address of where Serena was living alone in Paris.
It wasn’t until 2017 that Serena actually returned to Port Charles, and it was for a somber occasion: to reunite with Scott and Lucy as they mourned the passing of Lee Baldwin (Peter Hansen), Scott’s father and Serena’s grandfather.
Serena has lost multiple siblings over the course of her life. In addition to her half sister Karen, Scott’s son Logan Hayes was fatally stabbed by Lulu Spencer (now Alexa Havins) in self-defense in 2008, and Scott’s son Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) was shot dead by Peter August (Wes Ramsey) in 2021. Serena never met either Logan or Franco on camera.
Serena was mentioned again in 2022, when Scott jetted off to Denmark to help his daughter, who had become a crusader for the environment and was arrested for confronting dolphin hunters.
Why Is Serena Coming Back to GH?
Lucy chatted with Serena by phone on the July 9, 2026 episode, and she is due back in town soon. GH Head Writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten told Digest exclusively that she returns during “Lucy’s hour of need” when there is trouble at Deception.
They added, “Serena has been traveling the world fighting the good fight for animals and the ecosystem, but a personal setback means a reunion with her mother couldn’t come at a better time.” Not only does she come home to help Lucy, “but also to lick her own wounds and regroup,” they noted.
And this version of Serena will take after her parents in key ways. Korte and Van Etten teased, “Serena is all heart – but when Lucy aims her at the Quartermaines, we’ll see she’s also plenty conniving. When it comes to Coes and Baldwins, the scheming gene doesn’t skip a generation.”
