A Q&A With Bruce Michael Hall (Joey, OLTL)
Soap Opera Digest: Welcome back to OLTL! Were you expecting to return?
Bruce Michael Hall: No! I hadn’t seen everybody in awhile, so I thought it would be awesome.Digest: Were you given a lot of detail about Joey’s storyline?
Hall: No, not really.
Digest: Have you been watching since you left?
Hall: Yeah, I try to keep up every once in awhile, mostly to watch [girlfriend] Jessica [Morris, Jennifer]. It kind of makes me miss everybody when I see it. I’m having fun. I love L.A., but man, that was a good show to work on.Digest: Do you keep in touch with anyone from OLTL?
Hall: Actually, Shanelle [Workman, ex-Flash] and Brock [Cuchna, ex-Paul] are out here and we hang out sometimes. And of course, I’m in touch with Jessica.Digest: Who were you the most excited to see again?
Hall: Bobby [S. Woods, Bo] and Philly [Carey, Asa]. [When I left], Philly kissed me on the head and said, “Man, that’s too bad. I’m going to miss you; you’re like a grandson.” I was like, “Aw man, I’m going to miss those guys.”Digest: How do you feel about the writers using Lindsay in the Rex/Jen triangle instead of Joey?
Hall: That’s great for Lindsay! Lucky JP [John-Paul Lavoisier, Rex], ’cause Catherine [Hickland, Lindsay] and Jessica are both hot. It’s like a JERRY SPRINGER episode on daytime. It’s great.
Digest: Speaking of hot, are you disappointed that PASSIONS decided to make [Hall’s former character] Reese a stud now that your brother, Seth, has taken over the role?
Hall: The funniest part was watching Seth when they did the changeover and all the women’s lines were like, “Who could resist a hot bod like that?” And Seth’s just sitting on the couch, grinning. We’re like, “He’s going to be impossible to live with now.” He just thought it was funny. He thinks he’s a sexy bitch now [laughs].Digest: What have you been up to?
Hall: I just finished my first starring role in a feature. It’s called The Fall of Night. I play this badass musician who never made it and goes down the wrong road. Basically, it’s my day to die and I get a vision of it, so I keep trying to change things so that I don’t die. But I keep dying at the end of the day until I give up this one thing that’s holding me back. It’s dark, but has a happy ending. It will probably not be out until next fall, at the earliest. I think they’re shooting for the film festivals in the spring. It’s me, Tony Longo and Persia [White], the girl from GIRLFRIENDS. Tony plays the bad guy in everything, and plays the bad guy in this.Digest: That sounds cool.
Hall: Seth and I are also appearing on the reality show BLOW OUT. They’re changing our hair and are going to try to … I have no idea. I’ve never had a real salon hairdo before. It’s always been cut by the show or I’m a Fantastic Sams-type guy. It will be interesting. It’s like THE RESTAURANT, but about a salon. So, it’s his dream to start a salon in Beverly Hills and then everything that goes into that, the drama of it. We’re in one episode where he’s competing with the first chair and the owner — they’ve got to make us look different — but it’s kind of starting with the same model because we’re twins, and seeing who does the better job.Digest: It’s great that you have so much going on. How is your band doing?
Hall: My band’s been playing all the time. The Web site is www.rowdycountry.com.Digest: Would you return to New York if the show invited you back full time?
Hall: Sure. I love the part. You never know.
