Talk of Bo Brady’s health crisis – the character, who’s been in a coma since being shot in 2023 by his son, Shawn, has developed sepsis and is nearing death – has been front and center on Days of Our Lives. Family and friends have been struggling to cope with the possibility of losing Bo, and Shawn, Steve and Kayla have joined forces to get their hands on Dr. Russell’s experimental drug, hoping it might be the miracle Bo so desperately needs. Now, fan favorite Peter Reckell (ex-Bo) is addressing his status with the show.

Holding Out For A Hero

Reckell, who last appeared as Bo in April 2023, is slated to return to DAYS alongside longtime leading lady Kristian Alfonso, who plays Hope, for a brief story arc later this spring, it was announced last September. But it appears that the actor is open to reprising the role he originated back in 1983 for a longer run. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Reckell acknowledged the inquiries he’d gotten from fans abut him possibly putting down roots in Salem again, and proclaimed, “I would love to go back, the show just has to find room for me.” He went on to write, “Thanks so much for your continued support, it means a lot after all these years!!!”

Alfonso and Reckell’s beloved pairing on DAYS kicked off 42 years ago, with Bo and Hope marrying for the first time in 1985. In 1987, both actors left the show for the first time, and their characters (along with their infant son, Shawn, known then as Shawn-Douglas), left Salem to sail the world on their boat, the Fancy Face. Reckell and Alfonso returned to the show in 1990, her for a short-term arc and him for a longer one. Hope was presumed dead, and Bo found love again with Billie Reed. Reckell exited DAYS again in 1992 and Bo was recast with Robert Kelker-Kelly, but Reckell reclaimed the role in 1995.

Reckell departed DAYS again in 2012, but in 2015, he was lured back for another short arc that saw Bo diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and die in Hope’s arms. However, in 2022, the DAYS spinoff Beyond Salem, which streamed on Peacock, contained a huge and welcome surprise for Bo fans: It was revealed that he was actually alive! Bo, who had been confined to a cryogenic state, was properly resurrected on the main show in 2023, but just as he finally reunited with Hope, Shawn (who mistakenly believed that his mother was in danger from his father) shot him. Bo has lingered in a coma ever since.

When Reckell exited DAYS again in 2012, Bo left town with his mother, Caroline, and Hope divorced him in 2014. But in 2015, Bo resurfaced in time to help save Hope from a murderous Aiden Jennings look-alike. The lovers’ reunion was sadly short-lived, however, as Bo was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and passed away by year’s end. Alfonso left DAYS in 2020.

A miracle was in store for Bo and Hope, however: In 2022, on the DAYS spinoff Beyond Salem that streamed on Peacock, it was revealed that Bo was actually alive. With both Alfonso and Reckell on board, the Bo/Hope saga resumed yet again in 2023, and Bo emerged from the cryogenic state he had been confined to and finally reunited with Hope — only to be shot (by his son, Shawn, no less) and rendered comatose. Alfonso and Reckell left again at the conclusion of that storyline.

When both Bo and Hope return to the canvas later this spring (the duration of the visit hasn’t been revealed by the show), viewers, of course, are hoping the next chapter in their epic love story includes storyline includes a miracle cure for Bo and a reconciliation between Bo and Hope.
