Mishael Morgan Previews Amanda’s Return To Y&R And Her ‘Very Mysterious’ New Client
Back in March, it was first reported that Mishael Morgan would be returning to Young and Restless for another appearance as Amanda Sinclair. Now, fans can look forward to seeing the attorney back on screen starting with the episode airing on Friday, May 16. However, when it comes to exactly what brings Amanda back to Genoa City for another visit, the actress is keeping her cards close to her chest.
Coming Around Again
“Well, she’s always representing somebody,” Morgan teased in a new interview with TV Insider in advance of her comeback. The actress added that Amanda “represents high-powered people in society. So, Amanda’s coming back to represent somebody very mysterious, definitely high-powered, and she’s going to make some waves while she’s there.” Case in point: Amanda will cross paths — deliberately — with Abby, who slept with Devon while he was still in a relationship with Amanda; the two subsequently got married. Previewed Morgan, “Amanda thinks, ‘I might as well bump into Abby and make her uncomfortable.’ “
Morgan first joined the cast of Y&R back in 2013, playing Hilary Curtis until the character was killed off in 2018. She returned to the soap the following year as Amanda Sinclair, who was eventually revealed to be Hilary’s long-lost twin sister. And in 2022, Morgan made history as the first black woman to win the Daytime Emmy Award for Lead Actress for her work on the soap.
At the end of 2022, Morgan announced her decision to step away from the soap to pursue other opportunities, though she briefly returned for Y&R’s 50th anniversary in March 2023 and made another visit to Genoa City in February 2024. In between appearances on Y&R, he actress has been keeping busy starring in movies like Christmas With a Kiss and Dress for Success, and earlier this year starred in the four-part Hallmark Movie series Hearts Around the Table.
While Morgan admitted that readjusting to the hectic shooting pace of a daytime soap took some effort, she had no trouble getting back into character. “It’s surprisingly easy to slip back into Amanda,” she confided. “I think I made her so different than Hilary that I’m not slipping into Hilary, but I am trying to grow in Amanda. Even though I’m gone for a long time, every time I come back, I want to allow the fans to see a little bit more of who she is, and how she’s evolving and changing. Things are happening off camera — her mom has passed away, she has this new job, so there is a lot of growth happening for her.”
Golden Girl: Morgan earned two Daytime Emmy nominations while playing Hilary, and took home the trophy for her portrayal of Amanda.
