Mishael Morgan Poised For Dramatic Young and Restless Comeback!
Good news, Young and Restless fans! Mishael Morgan is returning to the show as her second character, Amanda Sinclair, this spring. In fact, the actress has already reported to the CBS set.
She’s Baaaaack
Deadline was the first to report the big news of the popular star’s comeback. Amanda hasn’t been seen since February 2024, when she briefly returned to Genoa City to inform her former boyfriend, Devon, that Jill Abbott wanted to add her last name to their company, Chancellor-Winters. At the time, the actress told Digest, “I loved putting in a little bit of snark and I was directed [to] take the snark out and keep her a little more direct and professional. But I think I got an opportunity to kind of have a little underbelly of vindictiveness, a little bit of scorn. That’s always fun, to have those nuances where she’s professional but there is history there and you get to use some of that and bring some of that into the scene.”
In 2022, Morgan made daytime history by becoming the first Black actress to take home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress, a statuette she earned for her work as Amanda. “It was everything to me,” she told Soap Opera Digest of her win in a 2023 interview. “It felt like the culmination of my entire journey — choosing to be an actor, to go on this incredible ride, to come back. I just felt like I listened to the signs in my life and was able to do this moment that was so perfect.”
Morgan began her career on Y&R as Hilary Curtis in 2013, and after Hilary died in 2018, the actress returned to the show the following year as Hilary’s twin, Amanda. “There had been a regime change [behind the scenes],” she recalled to Digest in 2023, “and it meant so much to me to get the call saying, ‘I feel like the show made a mistake letting you go so easily and I really want to correct that.’ When they were like, ‘And we’re going to let you play a new character,’ that kind of wiped everything away for me, because they knew part of the reason I wanted to leave was because I felt the itch to play new characters. Coming back as Amanda was very challenging for me because I was playing opposite most of the same characters that I’d worked with for five years as a different character. I didn’t want everybody to just see her as Hilary 2.0.”
There were no details about this upcoming stint, but there are several people Amanda could interact with in town with whom she has history, including her exes Devon and Nate, Devon’s wife, Abby (as fans know, Devon and Amanda’s relationship imploded when Devon cheated on her with Abby), and her bestie, Phyllis.
